IBIZA - CALA MARTINA - RESTAURANT SA TRENKA
SA TRENKA RESTAURANT We decided to take a trip up north of the Island from Sant Antoni (San Antonio) to a beach and restaurant we had not been to before. We found a stunning beach, Calla Martina, and a charming, unpretentious chiringuito with a great vibe that specialised in rice dishes and seafood. The perfect ‘alternative’ Ibiza to some trendy, expensive places south of the Island. We booked a table for 2 pm and then walked along the beach. On returning to Sa Trenka, we ord

IBIZA - CALA d'HORT - ES BOLDADO - POST 1
ES BOLDADO Michelin Plate IIO This review contains three different trips to Restaurante Es Boldado in Cala d’Hort. When driving from Sant Josep to Cala d’Hort, take the last right turn to Cala Truja before you reach Cala d’Hort. After about 3 km, you will see the sign for Es Boldado on your left. Turn on this road and drive down the dusty Camino (dirt track) for around 1.5km, and you will see the best view of Ibiza. If you want a restaurant with a view, this is the one

DONOSTIA-SAN SEBASTIÁN - HOTEL NIZA
HOTEL NIZA What Eastbourne hotels could learn from Hotel Niza would fill a telephone directory. It's got the seafront location you want and the period facade that every kiss-me-quick hotel needs. The bedrooms are fresh, airy, and stylish in an untrendy way The front rooms overlook the promenade and the stunning Playa de la Concha The view to the right takes you to Parte Vieja (old town) and the harbour. It is a lovely spot to sit and watch the world go by while enjoying a gl

VALÈNCIA PROVINCE - CULLERA - RESTAURANTE CASA SALVADOR
RESTAURANTE CASA SALVADOR We recently returned to Casa Salvador and found it as good as ever. It is located in the La Albufera rice-growing area of Valéncia, in the estuary of Cullera, a freshwater lagoon that flows into the sea. It is not easy to find. Make your way over the bridge in Cullera along the back road (CV-605) > right at Via pista > left at Poligon num 28 Estany > right onto Avenida de Estany) If you feel lost, don’t turn back; it’s worth it in the end! Two ind

FORMENTERA - PLATJA DE MIGJORN - ES CODOL FORADAT
ES CODOL FORADAT UPDATE 2025 This restaurant is a great spot to visit on the Island, especially in the evening, when you can see stunning sunsets. It offers excellent seafood dishes and a good wine list. Tuna tartare Anchovies Melon Mojito A whole turbot grilled over coals I think the restaurant changed owners in 2022. It is now owned by the same family that owns the excellent Can Carlitos in La Savina, near the ferry terminal. Updated photos and a few words @thomhetheringto

IBIZA - SANT ANTONI DE PORTMANY - RESTAURANTE CALA SALADA
RESTAURANTE CALA SALADA We have often been to this family-run beach restaurant in a secluded bay. It is down a steep road. Parking is available halfway down, and a local bus service stops near the bottom of the road. The bus is the easiest and least exhausting way to get there. We turned up without a reservation on this occasion and were fortunate to be given a table inside. Once settled in, we had this excellent lunch, starting with ensalada casa (house salad) and a few beer

ASTURIAS - RIBADESELLA - PLAYA DE VEGA - RESTAURANTE GUEYU-MAR
RESTAURANTE GUEYU-MAR Michelin Plate IIO The coastline around Ribadesella features extensive sandy beaches and small coves. Playa de Vega is a remarkably unspoiled spot outside this sidra-obsessed, picturesque town. A café bar and snack kiosk provide drinks and ice cream. For a special lunch there, try this superb fish restaurant. All the staples are there, Almejas (clams) Gambas (prawns) Sardinas (sardines) Cetollu (spider crab) Pulpo a feria (octopus in the style of th

FORMENTERA - ES CALÓ DE SANT AGUSTI - CAN RAFALET
RESTAURANT CAN RAFALET Tonight, my birthday dinner was mixed paella, finished with a hierbas liquor from the Balearic Islands, and served “en la casa” by the friendly restaurant staff. The place I chose for this orgy was Can Rafalet in Es Caló de Sant Agustí, which boasts the prettiest views on the Island. The sea is at its turquoise best here, and I like the paella. Other places serve rice with “some things in it,” but this place serves a paella worth its salt, studded with

FORMENTERA - PILAR DE LA MOLA - PLATJA DE MIGJORN - LA FRAGATA
LA FRAGATA I walked into La Fragata (founded by Mari y Juan in 1979), the restaurant just down the beach from me, and the waiters immediately grabbed my hand and hailed me, remembering me from last year. The owner came out and declared, “Jon Listen “, the man from California ......... It was close enough, and I felt like frigging Ernest Hemingway……… I have been craving fish, especially dorada (gilthead sea bream), and they have it. Some fish are priced by the kg, so be caref

BASQUE COUNTRYSIDE - BAR RESTAURANT TOKI-ALAI
BAR RESTAURANT TOKI-ALAI Heading east along the coast road from Mundaka, you will find this lovely restaurant, which is situated on a beautiful little surfers’ beach. It is a reasonably large stone restaurant/bar. One glass wall provides a fantastic view of the beach. It is an excellent spot for a nice, relaxing lunch, trying a few delicious pintxos at the bar, or having a more leisurely meal in the evening. There is a very good menu del dia for €25 (weekdays) and €30 (weeke
