Our friend Terry Soper has just spent a week in the Northeast of Ibiza at the family-friendly resort of Es Cana. This is the 6th year in a row he has stayed here, so it comes highly recommended.

HOTEL ANFORA IBIZA

Carrer des Pou d'en Cardona, 9, 07849, Ibiza

+34 971 330 176

This is a family-friendly hotel, set back from the main strip on a side street, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel is immaculately clean.

Terry is a regular visitor here.

The hotel features two large, unheated pools, one located out front and the other out back, as well as a heated spa pool.

The sunbeds are cushioned and extremely comfortable, making it a pleasant place to relax.

If you're an early riser, you can witness the stunning sunrise. You do not get the famous Ibiza sunsets on this part of the Island, unless maybe at Cala Martina nearby.

The resort features numerous bars and restaurants located around the port and beach areas, as well as various entertainment venues that offer live music.

CHARLIE'S BAR

Avinguda Punta Arabí, 07849 Es Cana, Ibiza

+34 971 336 226

This atmospheric family bar is highly recommended for drinks and live music. You can watch live copycat acts like Adele, Elvis, The Four Tops, and Elton John, among others. It is always busy.

CASA JUAN

Avinguda Punta Arabí, 166, 07849 Es Cana, Ibiza

+34 971 331 198

A lovely, traditional, reasonably priced local place with good service and homemade food. Open all year round. A good choice is the dorada (gilt-head seabream) served with chips and salad.

The beach at Es Cana.

CHIRINGUITO BUAH

Platja de Es Cana, 07849 Ibiza

+34 682 169 730

This is a perfect little spot right on the Es Cana beach, with a nice selection of dishes on the menu.

The food is plentiful, fresh, and delicious, with high-quality ingredients.

Guacamole con nachos

Patatas Buah con alioli y salsa picante.

Langostinos Asian style.

The atmosphere is relaxed and cool with the ubiquitous Ibicencan Balearic chill-out music.

Also, try their Limonada casera. They also offer a variety of options for vegetarians and vegans.

SOLEA IBIZA

Playa de Es Canar 07849, Es Cana, Ibiza

+34 630 976 743

This restaurant is new in 2025, replacing Mamajuana (which we liked a lot). We have not been, so we cannot comment, except that it seems to have good recent reviews.

Just around the bay from Es Cana, you will find the stunning beach of Cala Nova.

There are a few excellent chiringuitos in the area.

ATZARÓ BEACH CALA NOVA

Platja, Avinguda de Cala Nova, 07849 Ibiza

+34971078228

This is the renowned Atzaro's beachside venture, situated in the stunning setting of Cala Nova.

They serve delicious food, although it is somewhat pricey, such as gambas rojas (10 pieces).

Langostinos Cardenales a la plancha.

Pastel de zanahoria con salsa de caramelo de coco y pistachos picados (carrot cake with coconut caramel sauce and chopped pistachios).

Good music, spectacular views, and service.

AIYANNA IBIZA

Platja, Avinguda de Cala Nova, 07849 Ibiza

+34971330456

From the people from Amante. Oozing a relaxed, laid-back, barefoot chic ambience.

They feature a healthy menu of fresh dishes, with a nod to influences from the Eastern Mediterranean.

Organic ingredients sourced from the restaurant’s garden will dominate, along with sharing plates for a modern take on beach dining.

At the far left side of the beach, you will find

CHIRINGUITO CAN COLOMARET

This is a more basic, old-fashioned traditional chiringuito. You can find a complete review by clicking HERE.

After your meal and a possible swim or surf! You can walk down to the right end of the beach,

to the stunning Bless Hotel Ibiza, for cocktails.

The hotel features a Michelin-starred restaurant, Etxeko, helmed by the renowned Basque chef, Martín Berasategui. Snacks are also available around the pool, and you can book a Spa day pass.

A good day trip from Es Canar is to get the ferry to the neighbouring Island of Formentera.

The ferry operates daily trips between May and October, with a journey time of sixty minutes.

The ferry departs from Es Cana, as well as nearby Cala Pada, Santa Eulària, and Cala Llonga.

There is an open deck on the upper floor from which you can enjoy incredible views of the coastline of Ibiza and Formentera whilst feeling the breeze and topping up your suntan.

On arrival in the port village of La Savina,

You can hire a car and make your way to,

JUAN Y ANDREA

Playa Illetes, 07871 Formentera

+346 30 258 144

Perhaps the most famous and most expensive of all the beautiful beachside dining destinations.

The family behind Juan y Andrea has been serving the most discerning clientele for decades. It is not unusual to see a supermodel or two enjoying the relaxed, super-stylish ambience here in the summer months. Even the King of Spain has paid a visit to this legendary seafood restaurant and bar where diners sit on the sand, order Crystal, and eat at low tables, served by white, boat-uniformed staff.

Once settled in, we enjoyed croquetas.

Gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns).

A delicious seafood paella.

You can get away with a sarong or T-shirt over beachwear in the restaurant.

On their visit to Formentera last year, they went to,

CHEZZ GERDI

Camí s'Abeuradeta, 40-45, 07860 Es Pujols, Formentera

+34 648 020 106

The establishment is charming, and the funky beach tunes add to the feel of a groovy party.

Excellent but expensive pizzas.

Service can be shaky, and be aware that you pay more to sit in the sun.

Terry with his grandson at Chezz Gerdi.

Formentera is a fantastic destination for a trip out, offering many excellent beach bars and restaurants.

Also nearby in Es Cana is the famous,

PUNTA ARABÍ HIPPY MARKET

It has been here since 1973.

With many stalls.

There is also live music, as well as bars to eat at.

All in all, the area is an excellent place for families, especially those with young children.
