ANDALUSIA - CÁDIZ CITY - VENTORRILLO DEL CHATO - ATÚN
RESTAURANTE VENTORRILLO DEL CHATO This restaurant is a beautiful historic Goya-esque 18th-century roadhouse, situated near the beach dunes, an oasis in the heart of a desert strip. Jose Manuel Cordoba makes magic with fish here. We come here for the Tortillitas de Camarones (shrimp fritters). The ones here are larger but also incredibly crispy, with more batter edges and significantly more shrimp than any others we had. They are great with a cold fino sherry. Other excellen

IBIZA - SANT ANTONI DE PORTMANY - CAN RAMONET - TAPAS IN IBIZA
CAN RAMONET UPDATE APRIL 2026: We believe the restaurant is now owned by Pikes Hotel (just down the road), so prices, opening times, and conditions may have changed, and unfortunately, there have been a few disappointing recent reviews regarding the newer staff. This is a typical roadside café/bar/restaurant you will find when driving inland, looking for tapas in Ibiza. It’s a wonderful spot to escape the hustle and bustle of the island. Just past Pikes, on the route from Sa

ANDALUCÍA - MÁLAGA CITY - BODEGA BAR EL PIMPI
BODEGA BAR EL PIMPI We were with Mark Walsh of @walshjewellery in Malaga and popped into this lively bar, located in the historical city centre next to the Alcazaba, which is among Málaga’s most renowned establishments. El Pimpi is featured in virtually every tourist guide imaginable. Even with its popularity as a tourist destination, El Pimpi has preserved the high-quality food that made it renowned. It is reasonably priced. Bodegas Bar El Pimpi is an interesting maze-like

IBIZA - SANT CARLES DE PERALTA - EL BIGOTES
EL BIGOTES The Fish Shack at Cala Mastella or El Bigotes (The Moustache, this refers to the proprietor’s whiskers!) El Bigotes will be remembered for sitting at his table every lunchtime whilst devouring a flagon of his favourite red wine. Unfortunately, At nearly 100 he passed away in 2025. It was a massive funeral on the island, with everyone paying their respects. RIP El Bigotes and thank you for your massive contribution to ibicencan gastronomy. There are two sittings: no

IBIZA - SANT CARLES DE PERALTA - BAR ANITA / CA N’ANNETA
BAR ANITA - CA N’ANNETA Bar Anita in Sant Carles/San Carlos Located in Sant Carles (San Carlos), a tiny village (near Santa Eulària des Riu), next to the Sant Carles de Peralta church, this old bar and restaurant is one of the most famous and beloved in Ibiza. It became a must for bohemians and intellectuals in rural Ibiza. For many, it is one of the few remnants of the bygone hippy era, probably even the last. This place invites you to spend a relaxing afternoon over coffee

IBIZA - SANT CARLES DE PERALTA - RESTAURANT SALVADÓ
RESTAURANT SALVADÓ This is an old-school, typical Ibicencan fish restaurant north of the island in Sant Carles de Peralta (San Carlos). Featuring fresh fish and rice dishes with a solid wine list and stunning sea views overlooking the little coves of Canal d’en Marti and Pou des Lleó Any lunch or evening meal at restaurant Salvadó is quintessentially Ibicencan and worth the trip. You start with an appetiser of high-quality bread, aioli, and olives. Mejillones picantes (spicy

ANDALUCÍA - VEJER DE LA FRONTERA - SANTA LUCÍA - VENTA EL TORO
VENTA EL TORO This is a small, discreet, countryside Venta without any pretensions. There are a few tables with a bar inside, and two terraces where most of the action takes place. Inside tables are used in more inclement weather. The terrace across the road runs over the stream that runs through Santa Lucía. Some of these tables were already reserved, so I suggest arriving early or making a reservation. The traditional inside area is wall-to-wall with their bullfighting phot

ANDALUCÍA - SEVILLA - TABERNA MANOLO CATECA
TABERNA MANOLO CATECA Tucked away in a corner alleyway, this hidden gem gives you the feel of being a local. The bar has been on this side street since 1920, when it was a wine despacho. In 1952, it became Taberna La Goleta. The current owner, Manuel Navarro, who goes by Cateca (hence the new name), took over around 12 years ago. Although small inside, it always seems popular, day and night, as it is packed with people standing outside drinking and enjoying Sevilla’s nightli

ANDALUSIA - CÁDIZ CITY - EL FARO
EL FARO This hidden treasure, tucked away in the old fishing quarter of Cádiz, offers authentic Spanish dining. A locally popular family-run restaurant. Nicely set-up tables and unpretentious cuisine, featuring outstanding fish and seafood dishes. In the past, we have eaten in the restaurant and the bar area. It’s a different place post-COVID. The bar has been revamped with three new rooms, each the size of the original. I miss the hustle and bustle of people and the theatre.
