IBIZA - SANT JOSEP - ES BOL NOU -- RESTAURANT SA CALETA
RESTAURANT SA CALETA
In March 2020, during a spring trip to Ibiza we returned to old favourite, Restaurant Sa Caleta.
On this occasion we had lunch, which included,
Almejas Marinera (clams in a fisherman's style)
Endivias queso azul roquefort, miel y nueces (Endives, Roquefort blue cheese, honey & walnuts).
Fideruada (a seafood paella with pasta instead of rice)
Combination tres tartas
We had a refreshing bottle of Belondrade y Lurton (Rueda) 2016 to drink @ €38
To finish we had the usual fiery café caleta.
The spring weather was changeable with sunshine, rain and wind, but a very pleasant 20°C
In the summer a masseur sets up tables at the beach entrance. Next to the restaurant there is a Chill Inn lounge, Es Jardí, where you can have a drink and sometimes, listen to live music in the evening.
The following is from a previous visit in the summer of 2018.
For a tasty seafood lunch or dinner extravaganza Restaurant Sa Caleta is situated between the airport and Cala Jondal and just before the turn off to Cala Jondal you will see a sign for Restaurant on the left.
Drive down the dusty camino where you will find ample parking at the bottom.
On the left you will see the restaurant.
Here you will find all sorts of excellent Ibicencan seafood like:-
Pimientos de Padrón
Boquerones (fresh anchovies in vinegar)
Calamares a la placha (grilled squid)
Mejillones a marinera (mussels fishermans stye)
Gambas a la plancha (grilled prawns).
Arroz a banda
Dorada (gilthead sea bream)
All kinds of live crustaceans can be chosen from the seawater tanks by the side of the restaurant.
Everyone sits outside in the summer.
Try one of the excellent white wines from Rueda (the verdejo grape variety is good) or an albariño from Rias Baixas in Galicia. They also serve excellent local wines, especially the rosés.
After your meal you must have the famous house specialty, café caleta (a flaming hot coffee, infused with local liqueurs, spices, orange peel and lemon).
Be careful, it is very potent, so do not go swimming after!
At the end of your meal you may need a lie down! So walk down to the sandy beach below. The beach is set in a breathtakingly beautiful backdrop of copper red cliffs.
The beach is quite shallow, making it ideal for children.
You can also partake in a local custom, where you fill a bucket of water with the rich copper sand and cover yourself all over in your home-made mud pack, then roll in the nearby seaweed which will stick to the sand.
Then lie down and bake yourself in the sun for 20/30 minutes until your self-made face/body mud pack is dry, you can then dive into the sea and wash it all off.
In the summer a masseur sets up tables at the beach entrance. Next to the restaurant there is a Chill Inn lounge, where you can have a drink and listen to live music in the evening.
The restaurant is open all year, but you will need to book in summer.
