ANDALUCÍA - ALMERÍA - AGUA AMARGA - RESTAURANTE LA PALMERA
We often visit the Parque Natural del Cabo de Gata-Níjar in the province of Almería (Andalucía's most significant protected coastal area, with a wild, isolated landscape and a hot desert climate). This time, we went to Agua Amarga, which borders spectacular, barren spaghetti western territory. This low-key village packs in cool bars, restaurants, locals, and fishermen. Beside a headland of troglodyte caves at the southern end of the beach. Most of the tourists here are Spanis

ANDALUCÍA - ALMERÍA - MOJÁCAR PLAYA - CASA EGEA
CASA EGEA If you are looking for well-made, traditional Spanish food on the long, winding beach road that runs along Mojácar Playa, Casa Egea is the place to go. The Restaurant is a little setback from the beach and has a glass terrace. Since 1995, you will find authentic Spanish food, lovingly prepared from traditional recipes, at this family-run Restaurant spanning three generations. They serve excellent seafood and fish, along with an ever-changing menu of local speciali

ANDALUCÍA - ALMERÍA - MOJÁCAR - CHIRINGUITO MANACA
CHIRINGUITO MANACA Drive past the Hotel Indalo on the road from Mojácar to Carboneras, go straight inland, and take a left at the third roundabout onto Playa Macenas, where you will see the Castillo de Macenas just before the Macenas golf course goes inland. From here, drive past Chiringuito Macenas (you can stop here for a drink or tapas) and onto an elementary dirt road, which is not in excellent condition and initially runs along a precarious cliff edge, overlooking the se

ANDALUCÍA - ALMERÍA - MOJÁCAR PLAYA - CABO NORTE
RESTAURANTE CABO NORTE This excellent little Restaurant is hidden up a side street off the main promenade in Mojácar Playa, near the Europcar car rental. Upon entering, you arrive in the bar and Restaurant area. When the weather is excellent, you can eat outside in the lovely enclosed garden area. On this pleasant summer evening, we had Mini gazpachos. Carpaccio de presa Ibérica (presa is a cut of meat from the shoulder of the Iberico pig). Carpaccio de atún (tuna). Pimient

ANDALUCÍA - ALMERÍA - VERA - TERRAZA CARMONA
TERRAZA CARMONA Michelin Plate IIO This grand restaurant is a family-run business and the oldest in Vera. Vera is the main town in this area, located approximately 10 km inland from the coast. I believe it was once home to the only cinema outside Almeria. If you come to the open market in Vera on a Saturday, you will find this oasis in the thick of it. You can stroll around the market from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm and then sneak in before the rush. On arrival, you will enter

ANDALUCÍA - ALMERÍA - AGUA AMARGA - ASADOR LA CHUMBERA
ASADOR LA CHUMBERA As you approach this restaurant, which is in a slightly out-of-the-way location along the main coastal road between Agua Amarga and Carboneras, you may think you are entering someone's back garden. That is precisely what it feels like if you dine outside in the evening, where you can sit in the courtyard on lovely tables in the shade of pomegranate trees and enjoy the stunning sunset and the view back to Agua Amarga over the sea. Inside, you will find two m

ANDALUCÍA - ALMERÍA - GARRUCHA - RESTAURANTE ESCÁNEZ
RESTAURANTE ESCÁNEZ We returned to an old favourite, Restaurante Escánez. Located on the Almeria coast, in the municipality of Garrucha since 1982, it was remodelled in 2004. A few years earlier, we were invited to Almería 2019, a food celebration held after Almería was named Capital Española de la Gastronomía 2019. We toured the fish auction, then had a lavish feast at Castillo San Ramón/Las Escobetas on the outskirts of Garrucha. Local chefs, including Paco Escánez of Rest

ANDALUCÍA - ALMERÍA - CASA SEVILLA
CASA SEVILLA This restaurant is in the middle of Almería, heading toward the port area. It is set in an alleyway off the main street and was full of locals on the evening we attended, which is always a good sign. There are tables outside in the alleyway, a restaurant in a room at the back, and tall tables with stalls in the bar area. They serve a very varied menu, including Almería's typical traditional dishes and specialities of the house. With every drink, in our case, a c
