IBIZA - SANT ANTONI DE PORTMANY - SA COVA DOWNTOWN
SA COVA - DOWNTOWN Sa Cova Downtown, which opened in 2024 on a Sant Antoni (San Antonio) side street, is a Mediterranean-style bistro. They are the same people from Sa Cova in the old town of Eivissa (Ibiza Town). The restaurant offers a French-Peruvian menu with seasonal products and an elaborate wine list. The chef, Begoña Aizmendi, offers a concise menu showcasing many of Sa Cova's essentials and a few of her new creations. On a warm evening, we sat outside and opened a

IBIZA - SANT LLORENC DE BALAFIA - RESTAURANTE ES PINS
ES PINS When heading north of the Island on the famous restaurant Road towards Sant Joan de Labritja, you will find this old-school, traditional roadside restaurant, Es Pins. There is plenty of parking outside the restaurant, which serves mainly Ibicencan staples such as roast lamb, pork chops, rabbit, pan-fried halibut, paella, and arroz de Matanzas (a traditional Ibicencan dish usually made in winter after the pig slaughter using pork, chorizo sausages, rice, and spices su

SEGOVIA - RESTAURANTE JOSE MARIA
SEGOVIA - MESÓN DE JOSÉ MARÍA Michelin plate IIO If you are looking for a traditional Spanish food experience, then Mesón De José Maria, a conventional Castilian Tavern off of Plaza Mayor, is the place for you. The restaurant has been here since 1982. Walk into the busy bar, and you will find it filled with a mix of locals, from those taking a break at the end of the day to families who wheel their baby prams into the bar to catch up with friends and family to enjoy a drink

ANDALUCÍA - ALMERÍA - AGUA AMARGA - ASADOR LA CHUMBERA
ASADOR LA CHUMBERA MIchelin Plate IIO Update January 2026: Asador La Chumbera has moved from its original place just outside Agua Amarga to a new spot overlooking the beach in what was previously the Restaurante Playa. It is still hands down one of the best restaurants in the Cabo de Gata, and its new idyllic location overlooking Agua Amarga’s stunning little beach adds to the enjoyment. The handling of the grill is still masterful. Highly, highly recommended if you’re in t

ALICANTE CITY - A FEW DAYS AROUND THE CITY
We spent a few days in Alicante City in October. Arriving late on Saturday night, we checked into our hotel and then headed to GASTROBAR DISTRIKT 41 Michelin Plate IIO Calle de Navas, 41, 03001 Alacant, Alicante +34 965 181 426 www.distrikt41.es This is an extraordinarily buzzy and busy bar/restaurant with modern décor and a great ambi e nce. It is run by two chefs originally from the Netherlands. They have a contemporary à la carte menu with a few Central European influen

LONDON - SOUTH KENSINGTON - CAMBIO DE TERCIO
CAMBIO DE TERCIO Under Abel Lusa’s excellent hospitality and guidance, this restaurant has been a long-standing favourite in South Kensington for many years. It has become a standard-bearer for Iberian food in London. Most Hispanophiles consider it the best in town. On this occasion, we sat down, wrapped up on a reasonably chilly lunchtime, starting with a glass of Amontillado or Cava. Followed by, Pan cristal y Cinco Jotas Jamón Ibérico de Bellota 100% (Jabugo) Five Jotas Ib

ANDALUCÍA - VEJER DE LA FRONTERA - SANTA LUCÍA - ASADOR LA CASTILLERÍA
ASADOR LA CASTILLERÍA To reach this meat mecca, just outside the pretty Andalusian hill-top village of Vejer de la Frontera, you must go up an extremely small road, but it is well worth the effort. You will find it is an idyllic setting amongst the trees, which ensures it is coolish on warm nights. Juan Valdés and Ani Melero run the restaurant. The restaurant is a selector, ager, ripener and steakhouse all in one. There are only a few of these around, and here they have their

ANDALUCÍA - MÁLAGA - MARBELLA - TABERNA LA NIÑA DE EL PISTO
TABERNA LA NIÑA DEL PISTO This is one of our favourite bars/restaurants in the old town of Marbella. You will find it hidden, down a small, narrow pasaje (passageway), but you won’t if you don’t pay attention to where you are going. This authentic Andalusian tapas bar is always busy with locals and tourists alike and is reputedly the oldest tapas bar in the Marbella area. The bar area inside is very traditional, beautifully decorated, with many photos of bullfighting scenes

ANDALUCÍA - VEJER DE LA FRONTERA - SANTA LUCÍA - VENTA EL TORO
VENTA EL TORO This is a small, discreet, countryside Venta without any pretensions. There are a few tables with a bar inside, and two terraces where most of the action takes place. Inside tables are used in more inclement weather. The terrace across the road runs over the stream that runs through Santa Lucía. Some of these tables were already reserved, so I suggest arriving early or making a reservation. The traditional inside area is wall-to-wall with their bullfighting phot

LONDON - SOUTH KENSINGTON - CAPOTE Y TOROS - HAM & SHERRY BAR
CAPOTE Y TOROS HAM & SHERRY BAR We returned to the little offspring of Cambio de Tercio, where you will find this lively little tapas bar specialising in sherry and Jamón and serving other delicious tapas. From the small menu, you can try: The wonderful 5J Cinco Jotas Jabugo Jamón Ibérico de Bellota. The patatas bravas here are served in all three of their restaurants and tapas bars. Tiny new potatoes are topped with a smooth tomato bravas sauce and a luscious dollop of sp
