IBIZA - SANT LLORENC DE BALAFIA - ES PINS
ES PINS
August 2021
When heading up to the north of the Island on the famous restaurant road towards Sant Joan de Labritja, you will find this, old-school, traditional roadside restaurant, Es Pins.

There is plenty of parking outside the restaurant, which serves mainly Ibicencan staples such as roast lamb, pork chops, rabbit, pan-fried halibut, arroz mantanza and paella. Their bread is unique, straight out of the wood fired oven, some of the best on the island.

The meat dishes are cheaper than the fish and portions are huge, catering more for the local farmers and workers of this northern village, than the tourists who happens to stumble by.

Es Pins is fitted out in traditional Ibicencan style, with wooden tables and chairs and a well stocked bar.

There are two dining areas, as well as a terrace.

Start with the homemade aioli, then try the sofrit pagès, an Ibicencan stew, made with all manner of meats. The sofrit pagès are €13, other mains start from €8.
We tried the three-course menu del dia for €12
Typical Ibicencan salad.

A small portion of sofrit pagès.

Greixonera (a famous local dessert which is a kind of bread pudding made from ensaïmadas (a quasant like pastry) with an appetising touch of cinnamon, served cold. (vegetarians beware it contains lard).

The restaurant has cult status around the Island and during our lunchtime visit, it was full of locals, for whom, it is a kind of canteen.

We would probably go for the main menu in future but if you are watching the pennies, the menu del dia is good value, you also get a drink and coffee, with it. Service was friendly, in a busy, rustic atmosphere.
