ASADOR LA CHUMBERA

As you approach this restaurant, which is in a slightly out-of-the-way location along the main coastal road between Agua Amarga and Carboneras, you may think you are entering someone's back garden.

That is precisely what it feels like if you dine outside in the evening, where you can sit in the courtyard on lovely tables in the shade of pomegranate trees and enjoy the stunning sunset and the view back to Agua Amarga over the sea. Inside, you will find two more formal rooms and a bar area

On this evening in early May, we chose to sit inside and started with:

Anchoas del Cantábrico con pan tomate (Cantabrian anchovies with tomato and bread)

Boquerones del Cantábrico con vinagreta de tomate y caviar de anchoas (cantabrian anchovies with tomato vinaigrette and anchovy caviar)

Croquetas de gambas rojas de Garrucha (croquettes of red shrimp from Garrucha)

Do ask about the fish of the day, which extends the menu further.

On the day we visited, medregal (amberjack) was on offer, along with Jibia plancha (grilled cuttlefish), filetes de pargo (fillets of red snapper), Lenguado (sole) and Atún Rojo (bluefin tuna)

Meat dishes included:

Magret de pato (duck) Chuletas de cordero (lamb cutlets) Chuletón de buey o de ternera de Tudela del Duero (T-bone steak) Presa ibérica (Iberica pork) Solomillo de buey (sirloin steak)

For dessert:

Sorbete de limón con cava (lemon sorbet with Cava)

Tarta de queso de la casa (cheesecake of the house)

Brownie, helado de vainilla y culis de fresa (brownie, vanilla ice cream and strawberry coulis)

We finished with a limoncello-hierbas-like libation and a coffee liquor.

To drink, we had a bottle of Cava to start at €35 and an excellent Campo de Borja at €20.

Service was very friendly, helpful and quite fun

Although the restaurant was not very busy on this early-season occasion. You will need to reserve in the summer months.

After your meal, sit back and relax on the terrace.

You can then enjoy the fabulous view over Cabo de Gata National Park and the wonderful atmosphere in the courtyard.
