ANDALUCÍA - SEVILLA - LA COCHERA DEL ABUELO
LA COCHERA DEL ABUELO
October 2021
We visited this fantastic and intimate little gem, twice in a couple of weeks. It is nicely decorated and laid out. Cinta Romero has run the restaurant, which was once a small bar called El Abuelo, since 2016. The owner has extensive experience, working in Restaurants in London, including The Ledbury and Michelin starred Indian restaurants.
The main seating is on the ground floor by the bar plus a few tables up on a small mezzanine.
They serve a tasting menu, including a vegetarian one or you can choose from the nuestros platos menu.
We started with their homemade, Mantequilla casera y pan artesano (artisan bread and butter).
Aperitivo de la casa la Semana, riñones de conejos (rabbits kidneys).
Zamburiñas en carpaccio can berenjenas asadas (scallop carpaccio with roasted aubergines).
Guiso del día, lentejas y esturión comprimido (stew of the day, lentils and compressed sturgeon).
Arroz de otoño con cerdo ibérico (autumn rice with Iberian pork).
There a small but excellent wine list, which is very reasonably priced. We had,
Descalzos Viejos 'dV' Chardonnay DO Ronda.
Bodega Máximo Abete, Guerinda La Roya .
On the earlier visit we had,
Atún Rojo tataki (red tuna tataki).
Rodaballo a la brasa con cebollas al carbón (grilled turbot with char-grilled onions).
Served with, Telmo Rodriguez, Gaba do Xil Branco, 2020 Valdeorras.
Presa Iberica de bellota a la brasa (grilled Iberian presa, which is a shoulder cut from acorn fed Iberico pigs and unlike most pork dishes, is served pink).
With the presa, we chose, Parajes del Valle, Terraje Monastrell 2018.
La tarta queso (the famous house cheesecake).
This restaurant stands out for its delicious homemade food, which is well prepared using top quality products. The service is friendly and welcoming. It is well worth a visit when in Sevilla.
