ANDALUCÍA - CÁDIZ - CONIL DE LA FRONTERA - FRANCISCO LA FONTANILLA
FRANCISCO LA FONTANILLA
August 2021
We returned to this old favourite in August and arrived just as the late summer sun was setting.

As you walk in you will find the fabulous seafood displayed in the cabinet in front of you. You can have a good look, ready for you to make you choice.

The restaurant was just filling up at 8.30 pm as is the way in Andalucía.

We settled down and after making our choices, we started the meal with,
Fabulous anchoas de Cantábrico.

The resturants own Cantarian anchovies.

Ensalad mixta (mixed Salad).

Langostinos pequeña (small prawns).

The star of the show. Cigalas.

Also known as Dublin bay prawns, Norway lobster, scampi or langostines in various countries.

Extremely fresh and tasty.

Tools at the ready!

We finished off the meal with some artisan ice creams.

As always, an excellent meal.

With wines from Galicia, albariño and verejo and a local moscatel.

A review from 2017
Francisco La Fontanilla is a lively beach-side restaurant which is usually buzzing with relaxed Spanish holiday makers and big family groups of Locals.

It is set right on the stunning Playa de Fontanilla beach in Conil de la Frontera and the freshness, quality and value of the seafood and fish is outstanding.

The choice is wide, try........
Tortillitas de Camarones (shrimp fritters)

Ostras (oysters)

Cangrejo (crab)
Carpaccio de atún (tuna carpaccio)
Sashimi de atún (tuna sashimi)

Lenguado (sole)
Merluza (hake)
Lubina (sea bass)
or the local urta etc

There is a big emphasis on the use of local produce. Both olive oil for your bread, and some bottles of wine are made by the local organic producer, Sancha Perez.
The quality of the cooking is excellent, especially the fish dishes.
Very good desserts include
pastel de higo (fig pie)
Cremoso pinones (creamy pine nuts)
Arroz (rice pudding)

Flan de la casa (house flan)

The restaurant has a lovely friendly atmosphere, although at busy times the service can be a little rushed.
You can eat in a covered outdoor area where smoking is allowed. Or you can get a table inside. Plenty of children and even animals are welcome, so it can be noisy and boisterous.

The is mainly a fish restaurant although there are a few meat dishes available, but it is best to go for the fish. Even though it is a large restaurant, you should book in the summer.
After a long, late, lunch you can watch the sun go down.
