CHIRINGUITO SES BOQUES

This rustic and authentic chiringuito is located at the end of a long, steep road descending from the little village of Es Cubells since 1974. It is nestled among pine trees and offers a complete view of a small pebble beach.

To get to the restaurant, take a left turn just before you reach the Es Cubells church.

After around a mile, you will see the sign for the restaurant on the left-hand side of the cliff road as you go down the hill. After a steep descent, you will reach the chiringuito next to the sea. Parking can be challenging during busy times. The chiringuito features wooden tables and paper tablecloths, serving quality fish dishes in a simple, pristine beachside setting.

The signature dish here is the famous lobster stew, known as “la caldereta de langosta.”

Jamón ibérico de bellota.

Sardinas a la plancha (grilled sardines).

We began with the familiar pan con alioli y aceitunas (bread with garlic alioli and olives).

With a few cervezas.

Tostada con boquerones y tomates.

Boquerones (anchovies cured in garlic, oil and vinegar) with tomatoes on toast.

Almejas en salsa de vino blanco y ajo (clams in a white wine and garlic sauce).

Followed by pescado escorpión a la parrilla.

The local grilled scorpion fish features firm, white flesh that is rich in flavour and slightly sweet. It contains few large bones, making it easier to eat. While the spines of the fish are venomous when they are alive, they are handled with care by fishermen and fishmongers. Once properly prepared for cooking, the fish is perfectly safe to eat. The whole cleaned scorpion fish is grilled with olive oil, sea salt, lemon, garlic, and parsley for added flavour.

The staff fillets the fish before serving it.

It was served with a side dish of tomates, espárragos, berenjenas y calabacines (tomatoes, asparagus, aubergine and courgettes).

Other fish is available.

Mero (grouper)

San Pedro (John Dory)

Rape al la plancha (grilled monkfish)

Dorada al sal (gilthead bream under a salt crust)

Gambas a la plancha (grilled prawns)

Bullit de peix (a luscious Ibicencan fish stew-soup)

Also, good paellas and rice dishes.

For dessert, we tried the luscious pastel de limón casero (homemade lemon cake).

For your fish or rice, try a chilled white wine, such as verdejo from Rueda or albariño from Galicia, or enjoy one of their excellent gin and tonics.

To conclude, we enjoyed a complimentary copa of hierbas, a local liqueur made with herbs from Ibiza.

After your meal, you can relax on the free sunbeds scattered around the pebble beach.

If you’re feeling more energetic, dive into the sparkling, clear waters of the Balearic Sea.

They offer delicious giant paellas for your events.

Seafood in Ibiza is typically priced by the kilogram, making it quite expensive. For this reason, you should budget around €80 - €100 per person for a meal that includes wine.

The service is both informative and very friendly.
