ANDALUCÍA - CÁDIZ CITY - TABERNA LA SORPRESA
TABERNA LA SORPRESA On a short trip to Cádiz, we stopped at Taberna La Sorpresa for a few tapas and a glass of the local sherry wine. This Taberna is a very underrated hidden gem. It is quite particular in that the tapas and platos here highlight fresh fish rather than the mainly fried seafood found in other parts of Cádiz. Go here once you have had enough fried food and want to try something unique to the area. We started with a couple of copas of manzanilla, followed by sar

ANDALUCÍA - PROVINCIA DE SEVILLA - ASADOR LA PERDIDA
ASADOR LA PÉRDIDA Michelin Plate IIO This incredible spot is just outside Sevilla, in a stunning old hacienda. The hacienda has been completely renovated with beautiful indoor spaces and outside terraces to enjoy this unique gastronomic experience and setting. It is a place for carnivores, and the fantastic meat comes from the livestock raised naturally and ecologically in the Riberas del Guadaíra, a unique and protected natural environment less than 20 km from Sevilla. ANDALUCÍA - MÁLAGA CITY - PALOCORTADO
PALOCORTADO This excellent restaurant is situated outside of the crowded old town area of bars and restaurants and is well worth a visit. We arrived early for Andalucía at 8.15 pm, and it was empty, but when we left at 10.15 pm, it was full to bursting, as is the way in Málaga. It is an excellent spot for an aperitivo; we had a fabulous palocortado cocktail to begin the evening. There is also a superb wine list. Once settled in, we began our meal with G azpachuelo cremoso

ANDALUCÍA - MÁLAGA - PEDREGALEJO - RESTAURANTE EL CALEÑO
RESTAURANTE EL CALEÑO To find a nice lunch in the sun, with a view of the sea, head east, along the coastal road from Málaga for about 6 km, and you will arrive in Pedregalejo. It's a pleasant walk or a short taxi ride from Málaga centre. Looking back toward Málaga City Just before you get to Pedregalejo, you will see Baños del Carmen, a summer seaside resort that was opened for the rich and famous in 1918. The still beautiful building and its ruined gardens are now a restau

FORMENTERA - PLATJA DE MIGJORN - LA FRAGATA
LA FRAGATA I walked into La Fragata (founded by Mari y Juan in 1979), the restaurant just down the beach from me, and the waiters immediately grabbed my hand and hailed me, remembering me from last year. The owner came out and declared, “Jon Listen “, the man from California ......... It was close enough, and I felt like frigging Ernest Hemingway……… I have been craving fish, especially dorada (gilthead sea bream), and they have it. Some fish are priced by the kg, so be caref

MADRID - DEESSA
DEESSA Two Michelin Stars Quique Dacosta has made his three-Michelin-star restaurant in Dénia a destination venue. He has now opened a restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz in Madrid so that guests can experience his talents in the Spanish capital. The restaurant is in the beautiful and opulent Alfonso XIII room, which overlooks the Ritz Garden. Diners are invited to taste one of two tasting menus designed by longtime Dacosta collaborator Chef Ricard Tobella. Clásicos de

DONOSTIA-SAN SEBASTIÁN - RESTAURANTE SALTXIPI
RESTAURANTE SALTXIPI Chef Jon Ortega is at the stove grilling sensational-looking gambas, hake, monkfish, turbot and T-bone steaks. Famous for its spider crabs, which it keeps in the basement, this has become a place for trendy thirty-somethings. Look out for the Ibiza-style chill-out to be added soon. The food is traditional, so if you order turbot or red sea bream, you get that —no extras, expertly cooked. The menu is quite spider crab-based, so it should be with such a g

CATALUNYA - BARCELONA - CERVECERIA CATALANA
CERVECERIA CATALANA Michelin Plate IIO A return to this restaurant in April 2022 for a few tapas when Covid-19 restrictions were still in place. All tables were spaced out, and the bar area had plastic shields. A nchoas escalivar. V ieira y gambas . The restaurant was not as busy as on previous visits, which is understandable given the COVID-19 restrictions. A previous visit in more convivial times. This is an excellent spot for tapas at the bar or a full-blown meal in th

ANDALUCÍA - GRANADA - ROSARIO VARELA
ROSARIO VARELA During our visit to Granada for the Premios Andalucía de Gastronomía 2022 (The Festival of Andalusian Gastronomy 2022), we had a couple of free nights and spent our second one here. Due to the still-in-play Covid-19 restrictions, there was no standing/eating at the bar, and everyone had to be seated. This is a little Local pearl in Granada. We went on a relatively quiet Sunday evening, when many other bars were closed, but still had to wait 10 minutes for a tab
