Heading 1

This famous restaurant was an institution for over 35 years. Just before the Covid-19 disaster, the owners decided to close after all that time. In October 2021, new owners, who's story started in Formentera with a paradise called Can Carlos have now reopened Ama Lur with the same ambitions but with a new Italian style. The restaurant has had a makeover and is now in stunning blue, to match the Ibicenco sky and sea,

from its previous yellow.

Set on a roundabout on the road from Ibiza Town to Santa Gertrudis, you will come across this restaurant, set in a delightful old Finca. In its previous long term incarnation, it was a Basque restaurant and the new owners have kept its Basque name. Amalur (sometimes Ama Lur or Ama Lurra) was the goddess of the earth in the religion of the ancient Basque people. Her name means Mother Earth or Mother Land.

The building breathes history, once you enter you will be embraced by its sophisticated Mediterranean decorations for the interior which, whilst simple, have been stylishly refreshed modern touches. The two dining rooms and the romantic garden are decorated in the same style (picture is the previous design).

Most of the people who come here enjoy this classic setting, the place being full every evening.

It is a very classy Spanish affair, start with a great cocktail like Garibaldi, Al Capone or Negroni Spagiato,

followed by fantastic refined, Italian influenced food, using great fresh produce like:

Tartare of zucchini and tomato

Carpaccio with truffle

Carpaccio of prawns with fennel and orange

Octopus with nduja

Pasta tartufo with summer truffle

Lamb chops

Iberian pork cheeks

There is also a very good wine selection.

The location in this wonderful private country house is for those special moments you can sit outside in the romantic terrace garden in the cool, Ibicenco air. It is a place to dress up and be seen.

A starter can cost €15+ main course €25+ All the excellent cocktails are €15.

Quite a few locals used to think this restaurant was as good as it got on Ibiza, it could be back on track now. There is plenty of parking available at the side of the restaurant.
