IBAI LONDON
As we had previously been to the famous Ibai (click here to view) restaurant in San Sebastián (the original, run by Alicio Garro and his wife, not the current one Michelin-starred run by Paulo Airaudo).

We thought it was time to try the much-talked-about ibai in London. This is a place to worship steak in Basque-style indulgence in London.
It is an authentic taste of the Basque Country, right in the heart of London, set in an old industrial warehouse, where the vibe remains the same, with exposed brickwork and polished concrete floors in a now-sophisticated atmosphere.

Their speciality, of course, is chargrilled Basque steaks and fish, but their excellent starters and sides are worth trying too.

Once settled in, we had,
La noir de Bigorre ham & crisps with smoked piparra peppers.

Today's special was a crab-and-wagyu pintxo (thinly sliced wagyu beef on a crab-and-bread base). This is one of the best pintxos we have ever had.

For the mains we had,
Slowly-grilled Basque chicken,

with beef fat French fries.

Galician Blond by Xose Portas in Pontevedra. This is Galician meat from older dairy cows. They are rich in marbling and complexity.

They are cooked how the chef decides best, no well down here! The steak is carved before it reaches the table and couldn't be more succulent.

They come with French fries, cooked in the Galician Blond beef fat and anchovy & herb Salsa.

For dessert,
Ibai Gâteau Basque with Poached Pear

Pain Perdu with Hazelnuts & Rum

There is a substantial, expensive wine list, but on this occasion, we only had a glass of red wine.
All the food was excellent, and, strangely or surprisingly, the slowly grilled Basque chicken stole the show for us on this occasion.

If you can afford it, it is one of the best places in London for grilled meat and seafood.
