SES OLIVERES

A guest review from Siddu Amin.

This beautiful terraced Restaurant has a handful of tables outside the entrance, which may appeal to those wanting a closer look at the old wooden trams that descend from Sollér up in the hills.

We arrived on Sunday afternoon, having tried and failed to book a table over the phone the previous day. There is no option to book online, so you'll need to call or book in person. Thankfully, the helpful manager managed to squeeze us in on the day, and we were given a stunning table in the fully booked establishment. It was soon apparent why this place was so popular.

The sweeping views over Port de Sóller provided the perfect accompaniment to our meal. There are a few tables inside, located by the bar and kitchen, which is equivalent to an overflow car park.

The ambience and overall dining experience are far superior on the terrace.

To start, we enjoyed red prawn carpaccio with a kimchi and yuzu emulsion. This was delicate and refreshing, which was ideal in the heat of the evening Balearic sun.

The croquetas del día, in their traditional Jamon variety on this day, were simply stunning. So much so that we ordered another half portion - something that the very helpful waiter agreed to despite medias raciones not being offered on the menu.

To go with our starters, we selected an excellent Mallorcan orange wine.

The rice dishes are the specialities here. Despite a strong lineup of traditional seco and meloso arrozes, we opted for the fideuà with squid ink,

topped with a few of the famous local prawns.

It wasn't too heavy, and a second (and third) helping did not feel excessive, as you can see!

We drank some Albariño with this dish upon the suggestion of our waiter.

Our choice of desserts began with a chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream.

A decadent yet refreshing chocolate truffle with mascarpone & orange zest (locally famed produce).

And a basque cheesecake, which was on the stronger side, and not to all of our party's liking, although appealing to those who do enjoy a blue cheese style cheesecake.

The entire bill, with a generous but justified tip, came to €190 for a well-fed family of four.

We were there for lunch, but Port de Sóller is a great spot to enjoy a stunning sunset at the beach and then make your way to Ses Oliveres for a fresh seafood dinner with wine and beautiful views of the bay.
