VANDAL PALMA

A guest review by Sidu Amin.

We grabbed a seat near the open-plan kitchen at Vandal in Santa Catalina, where the menu reads like a map of the world with influences from South America, Asia and Europe.

It's loud, so not the place for an intimate dinner, but it's fun. To start, we had,

Followed by,

Taco mexicano de pescado adobado con autentica tortilla xolotl de maiz nixtamalizado (mexican marinated fish taco with original handmade “tortilla” made of nixtamalized corn from xólotl).

Pulled Pork estilo pibil con plátano macho (pulled pork pibil style, served in fried grilled banana).

Cordero Mallman con labn eh, especies marroquíes, aceite de menta y Pedro Ximénez (slow cooked lamb, served with labneh, moroccan spices, mint oil and pedro ximénez).

Black Angus a la brasa, sobre tierra de algarroba y salsa holandesa de tuétano con hierbas de chimichurri (charcoal black angus served with bone marrow and chimichurri hollandaise sauce).

This was fantastically executed fusion food, showcasing brilliant Mallorcan produce, all served up in a buzzing atmosphere in a quirky part of Palma. The setting is much more contemporary than most tapas bars and is well worth the short cab ride from the city centre.

The service was very attentive, with an impressive wine list and recommendations for drink pairings to every course. This is one for a special occasion.
