45 CURTAIN ROAD

We had an excellent long lunch at the new 45 Curtain Road in trendy Shoreditch, London. The restaurant is set on the ground floor of the 45 London Hotel, with a large dining area, bar and open kitchen. The cuisine, led by Executive Chef Alex Furusawa-Cadoni, is a Spanish/Japanese fusion chophouse that combines bold Spanish flavours with Japanese techniques. 

From the relatively short menu, we chose,

Aonori milk bread, miso & shiso butter.

Gilda (Gordal olive, guindilla chilli, smoked bonito tataki) and a bottle of Alma Verde Organic Blanco Macabeo 2024 (D.O. Utiel Requena) (£26).

Maldon oysters, tosazu, kombu jelly, lime.

Crystal shrimp tempura with burford brown Japanese poached egg, sansho glaze.

With the suckling pig's ear, salsify, carrot, autumn roots, sesame,shicimi, we moved on to a bottle of Decantando Crianza 2025 (D.O. Rioja) (£36).

Morcilla & prawn meatball with a mustard miso, lotus root, and furikake.

Wood-fired carabinero rice, prawn dashi, shiso.

Josper grilled brill, burnt butter ponzu, and lemon.

Suffolk pork chop, koji. Japanese salsa verde, black garlic miso. Which was a large 600 kg chop.

Smoked beef fat, pink potatoes. With the meats, we had a Kuzubağ Çal Denizli 58% Öküzgözü and 42% Shiraz 2021 (£66), an excellent red from the Aegean region of Turkey that I had not had before. 

We had two Rubia Gallega bone-in ribeye steaks, ponzu, mustard, and miso.

They were around 1.1kg each.

Burnt miso & yuzu cheesecake, warm pistacho cream sauce.

The service was friendly and informative throughout.
