ZAZPI GASTROBAR SAN TELMO MUSEOA Plaza Zuloaga, 1, 20003 Donostia, Gipuzkoa, Spain +34 943 50 67 67

UPDATED JULY 2024

During our last visit to Zazpi, we discovered that it had relocated to a new home. Not all exceptional cooking takes place in a quiet setting with linen tablecloths and servers in waistcoats, and Zazpi was a perfect example of that. This restaurant is now situated in the avant-garde wing of the Museo San Telmo, and the cuisine crafted by the new-generation chef Paul Arrillaga is remarkable.

Zazpi originally served upscale pintxos in the centre of San Sebastián, and several of those offerings are still on the menu at its new location.

Rice with kokotxas and salsa verde

Surf-and-turf pintxo of hake served on porrusalda

Basque potato-leek soup, with shreds of confit heritage pig.

Diners can now enjoy full-size portions of Zazpi’s expertly crafted takes on classic Basque dishes, each enhanced with the chef’s signature modern touches.

We visited to take a look and found that the restaurant has transformed into a more formal dining establishment. The food still looks excellent, but the bar area no longer has the vibrant atmosphere of the old bar. We ordered a ración of gamba blanca de Huelva.

Which were excellent.

Below is a review of the old bar. They probably have similar dishes in the new restaurant.

In a town with excellent pintxo bars, the food here was delicious and unbelievably good value.

This is a very Inventive pintxo bar. You should order the hot food from the three menus to get the best ones. We started with the txuleta con ceniza (steak with ash)

Huevo, jamón, patata y trufa (egg, ham, potato and truffle).

Arroz verde con mejillones (green rice with mussels).

Carrillera ibérica de bellota (acorn-fed Iberian pig cheek)

Arroz de trufa con foie (truffled rice with foie gras).

Ravioles de rabo de toro (oxtail ravioli).

There is a good selection of wine and craft beer.

Great value for money and a friendly staff. Our waiter spoke English and took his time to explain the menu.

This is one of the best pintxo bars in Donostia-San Sebastián. It also has a great lunchtime menu you must try, including stunning txuleton and tortellini de rabo.

Every pintxo we ordered tasted incredible. They were all well presented, cooked perfectly and with excellent flavour. The staff were very helpful, making some excellent suggestions.
