KBZÓN TXIKI

During our 2025 trip, we discovered a spot we had not been to before: Bar Kbzón Txiki, a small hidden gem in the parte vieja (old town) that offers a delightful culinary experience. The atmosphere is inviting, and the decor is charming.

The bar offers innovative dishes crafted from familiar ingredients. They appear to use the sous vide method in their excellent cooking, which enhances the flavours. We settled in and ordered a couple of glasses of txakoli, the refreshing and slightly sparkling Basque wine. Later, we also tried the excellent house red wine.

They all paired beautifully with the pintxos we chose from the exciting new menu.

The menu offers a variety of creative and delicious pintxos. Below are a few of the wonderful dishes we tried.

Pulpo Gallega

First up, we had pulpo gallego con puré de boniato, salsa de tomates verdes y cebolla morada encurtida con cilantro.

This dish features tender Galician octopus, served with creamy sweet potato purée, a tangy green tomato sauce, and coriander-pickled red onions.

Cuscús de Trxangurro

Next, we tried the Cuscús de txangurro a la donostiarra con mantequilla.

This San Sebastian-style spider crab couscous with butter was a delightful surprise. It seems strange that no one I know has thought of this combination before. (€7).

Ravioli de bacalao

We couldn’t resist the Ravioli de bacalao a la brasa con yema de huevo.

These grilled cod ravioli, topped with egg yolk, were simply exquisite (€4.40).

Castilla de Euskal Terri

Finally, we indulged in the Costilla de Euskal Txerri a baja temperatura durante 24 h, tximitxurri y crema de cacahuete salado.

These Basque pork ribs, slow-cooked for 24 hours, were tender and full of flavour. The tximitxurri and peanut butter provided a unique twist (€6).

The small menu has several excellent dishes, and I am sure they’re equally good. This little gem of a bar blends local Basque culture with Caribbean and South American influences.

Everything was excellent, and the front-of-house staff member from Ecuador was very friendly, very relaxed, and a lot of fun.

If you want a distinctive dining experience in Donostia, Bar Kbzon Txiki is a must-visit.

The innovative dishes, friendly service, and warm atmosphere make it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring or an early evening swim on Playa La Concha, as we had just done.
