CATALUNYA - BARCELONA - SUCULENT
SUCULENT IIO
April 2022
On our trip to Barcelona in April 2022 we visited Restaurant Suculent. This is a great place with no pretentions in the somewhat dodgy area of Raval and lives up to its recent good reputation. It has a creative and relaxed interior with a good atmosphere, a little rough and ready rather than sophisticated, but the focus is on what comes on the plate.
There are two tasting menus, we chose the classic, seven courses plus two desserts.
The Classics Menu
Fresh marinated anchovy, orange gelée and olives.
Roasted duck croqueta.
Red prawn ceviche, avocado and corn.
Grilled Maitake mushrooms with pine nuts.
Steak tartar over grilled bone marrow.
Skate with black butter and citric mashed potatoes.
Lamb neck with ras el hanout eight spice mix, quinoa and herbs
Stuffed strawberries with chocolate, yoghurt and vanilla.
Brie and vanilla cheesecake with Muscat jelly.
To drink we had a 4 Manos Tierra de Luna (Garnacha) from Sierra de Gredos.
The bone marrow steak tartare was particularly memorable. The range and subtlety of all the food is excellent. The sauces and emulsions are particularly interesting, and it is clear that the whole menu was put together with great skill. The service was particularly good.
