CANARY ISLANDS - TENERIFE - RESTAURANTE EL CHAMO
RESTAURANTE EL CHAMO
November 2020
On our arrival at Tenerife South Airport, we picked up our hire car, headed on up to the sleepy town of La Escalona for lunch, at Restaurante El Chamo, for our first meal on the Island, this trip.
This family restaurant is an excellent representative of typical traditional Canarian cuisine, specialising in a wide variety of wood-grilled meats, including, lamb, goat, suckling pig, steak, and rabbit (which is served with salmorejo sauce),
If its sunny, you can enjoy the terrace .
We chose to eat inside in the large dining room, which was empty on our early arrival but filled up during the normal Spanish lunch time of 2/3pm.
After picking a table with a pleasant view, we started our lunch with Canarian potatoes and Mojo Sauces.
Champiñones con aceite de ajo (mushrooms with garlic oil)
Queso de cabra con mermelada de arándanos (goats’ cheese with cranberry jam).
Pierna de cabra asada (roast leg of goat)
Cochinillo (suckling pig)
Chuletón (T-bone steak)
Local wines which are obtained directly from the bodega nearby, are good.
We had two bottles of Viña Norte from Bodegas Insulares de Tenerife - Area: Tacoronte-Acentejo
There is a selection of homemade desserts but after our meat fest, we were rather full.
They also have homemade grappa.
The service was very friendly, they could not do enough for us.
Unfortunately, not really a place for vegans or vegetarians.
