Condumio Gastrobar

We went to Villena, a town in inland Alicante, to a restaurant we had not been to before, with our friend Howard Goldsmith of Alicante Sunshine Villas.

When you arrive at Condumio Gastrobar in Villena, you will find it hidden at the side of an industrial estate. You can quickly drive past and around it several times.

Do not, under any circumstances, miss out on this excellent restaurant.

It is aesthetically beautiful and comfortable, with a chef from La Sirena in Petrer, who cooks to match the décor. So, we had for starters:-
Bread: two types of home-baked, crusty small loaves, served with olive oil, rock salt, and stunning truffle butter. I would have been happy with a few loaves and nothing else, but then I would have had to walk out of the doors sideways.

Asparagus - cooked to perfection in olive oil and lightly salted.

Gyoza. Oh, joy, filled with Secreto Iberica and gorgeous.

The salads were spoiled for choice, so we went for the Queso Blanco with Raf tomatoes and fresh leaves.

Squid - served on a bed of vegetables and, once again, cooked to perfection- was superb.

Main Courses:-
Smash Hamburger - served in a brioche bun with truffle sauce, parmesan shavings, crispy bacon, and shiitake mushrooms.

Smoked wagyu hamburger, presented with a cloche that, when taken away, smoke poured out, theatrical, great fun.

Caramelised onion, cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, and guacamole.

Ceviche of sea bass - spicy, not taking prisoners, served with Granny Smith apple pieces and raspberries - a wonderful mix of sweetness and spice.

No desserts. I was still eating the bread, to be honest.
Coffee, water, and soft drinks for three €108
Amazing value. With wine, etc, you could spend €50-60 per head and much more if you wanted to, but what we had for €36 per head was stunning.
