CASA MONTAÑA Michelin Plate IIO

A delightful old tapas bar and bodega in the El Canyamelar fishing neighbourhood of València, down by the port area, which has been serving locals since 1836.

They have left the interior and structure of that period intact, keeping original barrels behind the bar.

Aside from the bar area, there is a restaurant behind it, accessible by ducking under the bar counter. This must be booked in advance, and the menu is slightly more elaborate.
For the less athletic, you can access the restaurant from the side street.

Tapas are traditional, made from good local produce, rather than fancy Michelin.
We tried
Anchoas

Gildas

Patatas Bravas

Jamón Ibérico

Torta de La Serena

Txistorra

Sopa de Cebolla

Also available are standards such as tuna, cuttlefish with onions, broad beans with jamón, padrón peppers, grilled artichokes, codfish croquettes, and cod with potatoes and aioli.

There is a great wine list, and the service is very friendly. The place is not that big, so demand is high, which may mean you have to wait or have a drink at the bar before being seated.
The characteristic smell of wine hits you as you walk into the buzzy atmosphere.
They have vermut at €2.30 a copa, and most tapas are around €2.75

It's a bit out of the city centre, in a neighbourhood mainly of locals, about 10 minutes by taxi.
Beware, like most restaurants in València, they do not serve fish or shellfish on Mondays.
They are also closed on Sunday.
