JOSÉ CARLOS GARCIA One Michelin Star
UPDATE JUNE 2026
Rumour has it that Michelin-starred chef José Carlos García was planning to move his restaurant from Malaga Port. Even he wasn’t entirely sure about his new destination. While he knew he wanted to leave the port, the location remained uncertain.
Finally, the Malaga-born chef, who has held a Michelin star at his eponymous restaurant for nearly 15 years, is returning to his roots. “It was a difficult decision, but I’m very excited,” he stated.
Although he hasn’t announced a specific date for the reopening, he hopes it will be before the end of the year. José Carlos García is set to return to his family’s restaurant, Café de París. This iconic establishment at La Malagueta beach will reopen under his direction after being closed for almost ten years. So if you want to go to the restaurant in the port, you need to go soon.

Situated in the shopping district across from the Muelle Uno marina, the restaurant's dining room overlooks the yachts and boats docked in Puerto de Málaga.

It features designer-inspired decor with an abundance of glass. The open glass kitchen allows diners to see the chefs at work.

There are three dining rooms, including a large front dining room with windows that overlook the port.

The back dining room is more multipurpose and can also accommodate larger groups.

There is a beautiful vertical garden that gives the space a fresh Mediterranean feel,

along with a collection of art inspired by famous Spanish guitar players like Paco de Lucia of “Entre dos Aguas” fame.

There is also a third outdoor patio/terrace dining area overlooking the port.

Málaga chef José Carlos García emphasises the use of local produce from Málaga’s coast in his cooking. He is a prominent figure in Andalusian haute cuisine, having received numerous awards, including Best Andalusian Chef in 2009.
The exquisite tasting menu is priced at €150, which, while not inexpensive, is worth the splurge if your budget allows. Alternatively, you might consider the more affordable soft menu at €70, which offers great value.
