DONOSTIA-SAN SEBASTIÁN - PARTE VIEJA - GANDARIAS JATETXEA
We returned to Casa Gandarias in November 2022 for our regular fill of pintxo de solomillo and red wine!
This was a good match with the solomillo.
The famous Basque Gildas.
Guindilla pepper, green olive and fresh anchovy - named after Rita Haywood - hot, tall and spicy).
During this visit, we also had a sit-down lunch in the restaurant with a group of eleven people. Something we had not done before and included.
Starters of Jamón and txistora (chorizo) selection.
Almejas Marinera (fishermens clams).
(pimientos rojos rellenos de cangrejo y pulpo (crab stuffed red peppers and octopus).
Followed by the main courses.
Solomillo con foie (sirlion with foie gras).
Cochinillo (suckling pig).
Cordero lechal (milk-fed baby lamb).
Pantxineta con bola helado.
Pastel Vasco choco (Basque chocolate tart).
To drink we had various bottles of Txakoli, CUNE Imperial Reserva, Muga Reserve and Pedro Ximenez. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed all the food.

This is one of our favourite bars in Donostia Parte Vieja (San Sebastián old town)
You will find excellent, old-style, top-quality pintxos, in this always buzzy, traditional bar and restaurant.
The bar is always laden with pintxos or you can order the freshly cooked hot options.
These pintxos are always good:
Gernikako piperra (Gernika peppers)
(these are seasonal and available in summer only and not hot like Padrón peppers)
Setas con jamón (Mushrooms and Jamón)
Anchoa vinagreta (anchovies marinated in vinegar)
Carrillera de buoy (beef cheeks)
Pasteles de cangrejo (crab cakes)
Try the house red, Marques Vitoria (€2.20 a glass) or one of the many other wines served by the glass.
Service is friendly, quick and efficient.
They now have a delicatessen a few doors along selling all kinds of excellent local produce
