THE FISH SHACK @ TALAMANCA

Also known as Chiringuito Sa Punta, a tiny shack on the rocks perched delicately at the sea's edge at the very end of Talamanca beach, this is hard to find, as there are no signposts or a roof.

This is one spot you don't often read about, making it all the more special.

Head for the restaurant Sa Punta in Talamanca, and when you reach it, keep going past the rocks.

Soon, you will see the tangle of umbrella canopies, wooden tables and plastic chairs.

A simple, typically Spanish chiringuito overlooking the bay towards Ibiza Town (Eivissa) and the Dalt Vila, which has been run by the same family since 1979.

This place serves delightfully simple fish dishes, such as Dorada (gilthead bream).

This one was perfect!

Lubina (sea bass)

Sardines (sardines)

Boquerones fritas (fresh fried anchovies)

Pez Espada (swordfish)

Salmonetes (red mullet)

Excellent calamare a la plancha (grilled squid)

Gambas rojo ibicencan (red ibicencan prawns)

Mixed fish platter (swordfish, grouper and squid).

All are served with boiled potatoes coated in olive oil and a simple tomato salad, which can also be served as a side dish.

Almond cake.

Flaó (a local mint and aniseed cheesecake).

Some meat dishes are available, but you are here for the fish.

It is a buzzing, friendly atmosphere.

There is no pretentiousness here.

There is a decent, reasonably priced wine list.

Finish with a visit to the local favourite café caleta.

A flaming hot coffee infused with local liqueurs, spices & orange peel.

If you feel adventurous, you can have a dip in the sea via the swimming pool ladder fixed to the rocks

or sit and relax with a glass of wine or a beer as the sun goes down over the Dalt Vila of Ibiza Town and the twinkling evening lights come on to end a magical day.

There seems to be no website, address, name, or telephone number. The mainly locals and in-the-know who frequent it obviously want to keep it a secret. The staff are great.

The Fish Shack is only open in the summer and is dismantled for the winter, leaving no trace of it until next summer.

No credit cards are accepted, so please take cash.
