BASQUE COUNTRY - SAN SEBASTIÁN - HOTEL NIZA
What Eastbourne hotels could learn from Hotel Niza would fill a telephone directory. It’s got the seafront location you want and the period facade that every kiss-me-quick hotel needs.
The bedrooms are fresh, airy and stylish, in an untrendy way
The front rooms overlook the promenade and the stunning playa de la Concha
The view to the right takes in the parte vieja (old town) and harbour
It is a lovely spot to sit out and watch the world go by whilst having a glass of Basque vino.
A word of warning, the ocean view rooms do not have air con because you are told the breeze from the ocean should be enough. This is OK most of the time in San Sebastián but it can get a little hot and stuffy in the height of Summer.
The common areas are very stylish.
The bar/breakfast room looks out to the sea. It serves pintxos later in the day and a good breakfast buffet in the morning with several protein options. Breakfast is extra but you could choose to have whatever you wanted and is as good value as anywhere close by.
The feature ornate hand-operated lift worked perfectly well.
The hotel is close to the parte Viejo (old town), new town and the harbour.
Strolling through the streets at night you are spoilt for choice, pintxos galore as well as all the top rated restaurants.
You can also have dinner at Restaurante Narru which is situated below the hotel and is highly rated with terrific service.
I would also recommend exploring some of the scenic trails and views close by the hotel.
I can’t imagine a better place to stay in San Sebastián for someone who wants a perfect location, a charming small hotel with excellent staff. They are fluent in English, Spanish, French and Basque (maybe more).
San Sebastián sunset
The hotel has free bicycles for guest use and there is a terrific bike path behind the hotel along the seafront.
Parking is available for a reasonable extra charge at an underground lot a few doors away.
