LA COSMOPOLITA MALAGUEÑA Michelin Plate IIO Permanently Closed

The restaurant closed in October 2025 after 15 years of operation. Chef Dani Carnero announced the closure himself, explaining that the project had “completed its cycle” and its era had come to an end.

This place is a great little spot just off the calle Granada in the centre of Málaga’s old town. The decor is immaculate, with a traditional twist. You can have tapas at the bar or sit in the main restaurant. There is also an outside terrace for warm evenings. We returned one evening in January for a few late-night tapas at the bar, where we enjoyed

Ensalada Rusa (Russian Salad)

Bacalao (deep-fried cod)

Albóndigas de cola de toro en salsa (bull tail meatballs in gravy)

Tres Picos wine from Campo de Borja

This was followed by Queso Reserva de Familia

Tarta de queso (cheesecake)

The service was extremely friendly and helpful, including information we needed about Málaga. We had been there before and enjoyed the following meal. The menu is pretty short, but all the dishes are delicious. Try:-

Patatas y cebolla roja con una copa de vino blanco de Rueda (potatoes, red onion with a glass of white Rueda wine)

Pil-pil huevos rotos con gambas (pil-pil scrambled eggs with prawns)

Camarones con yema de huevo (small deep-fried shrimp with egg yolk)

Sardinas con ali-oli (sardines with garlic mayonnaise)

Another must-try is the pan de cristal, an excellent, long chapata-style bread, scooped out, filled with delicious fish or meat, and toasted.

Delicious desserts are available, like

Pastel de limón (lime cake) Málaga mousse (Málaga mousse)

The ambience is charming, and the service is warm, friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. The menu changes monthly and, to some extent, every day, depending on what the chef has seen at the market that morning.

There is also a short but excellent wine list, as well as good cocktails and beers served at the bar.
