RESTAURANTE LASAI Michelin Plate

While we were in Bilbao, we went to Lasai for lunch. The entrance is in a basement down a side street, so it's not easy to find. Once inside, there is a lovely, relaxed vibe and a good atmosphere.

The team behind this concept is Bilbao native and chef David Garcia, who boasts one Michelin star for Corral de la Morería and is the gastronomic director here. The head chef is Igor Méndez.
Once settled in, we chose the Crystal tasting menu. To begin, we were served,
Calçots vichyssoise cappuccino and pumpkin seed romesco foam.

Red tuna tartare and crispy nori.

Crispy sphere filled with Idiazabal cheese.

With two bottles of Bodegas Gerardo Méndezo Do Ferreiro Cepas Vellas Albariño 2023.

Roasted scallops with white coconut garlic sauce, dried tomato and date tarta.
Grilled Begi handi (local squid) stuffed with mushroom ragout and pig's trotters with cod foam.

With two bottles of Attis Albariño 2023

Sea bass with caramelised chives, grapefruit and fried capers.

Sweet beef—the best veal is slow-cooked for 72 hours, so tender you must eat it with a spoon.

Two bottles of Fedellos Do Couto Bastarda 2022.

Caramelised torrija with cinnamon ice cream.

With a bottle of Bodegas Itsas Mendi Uretzi
The sweet, fresh flavour of Biscay. Urezti means water and honey, a reference to the fact that a rainy region can produce a delicate sweetness.

The service was friendly, informative and helpful throughout the meal.
