ASADOR BEDUA

On the banks of the Urola River, just outside the village of Zumaia, you will find Asador Bedua, a restaurant with generations of family history,

based on fresh produce from its own garden.

It all started four generations ago, when their ancestors offered potato omelettes with green peppers to the residents of Zumaia who came to the grill by rowing upriver in their boats.

The Bedua grill is a benchmark of Basque gastronomy. Over its embers, you will see roast beef chops, fish (sea bream, turbot, monkfish, sole, kokotxas, etc) and shellfish, along with seasonal products from the garden itself.

This is what we had to eat and drink on our recent visit.
Homemade croquetas.

Jamón ibérico de bellota.

Tomate con bonito (tomato and tuna).

Foie gras.

Piquillo peppers.

After the starters, we moved on to the main courses.

Besugo.

Grilled sea bream.

Chuletón de vaca (old cow beef chop).

Do not expect to get a well-done steak. It's not gonna happen, and it just ruins the excellent meat.

Served with
Emilio Moro 2019

The desserts then followed,
Tarta de manzana con helado (apple tart with ice cream).

Tarta de grosella negra con helado (blackcurrant tart with ice cream).

Pantxinheta con helado.

They have their own vegetable garden, located on an island with access via a Roman bridge,

where various products are grown that are served in the restaurant. Customers can walk through the orchard, which is a few meters from the restaurant.

Everything grown in the garden (lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, etc.) gives dishes the unmistakable local flavour of traditional Basque food.

There is an excellent selection of wines to help achieve the perfect pairing with the food.

The service was on point and very friendly.
