CHOCOLATERIA SAN GINÉS

The San Ginés Chocolatería & Churreria has been around since 1894 and is the most famous and also the most centrally located Chocolatería in Madrid.

They are open all night, so when the late night crowds exit the bars and dance clubs, they all head to San Ginés to put something tasty and sweet into their hungry stomachs.

It is set in an attractive location, with two floors of plush green velvet seating, marble tables and lots of mirrors. There is also an umbrella covered outdoor seating space.

There is no menu because it is obvious what people are going to eat. As it is so popular, expect to wait a bit for a table at any hour. The churros are made to order and are hot, crunchy, not too sweet and not oily like some you may have tried before.

A churro is a fried, predominantly choux dough, pastry

The chocolate is very good quality. Dark, Rich & perfectly sweetened.

It’s worth the wait in the queue to get your chocolate fix. One portion could easily be shared if on a tight budget. They also serve purros (which are basically large churros). You will only get two of these with your chocolate.

Once served it will cost €4 for delicious hot chocolate and €6 for the churros, with swift friendly waiter service, in these cool and very traditional surroundings.
