IBIZA - SANT JOSEP - TIME AND SPACE (IBIZA'S STONEHENGE)
TIME AND SPACE

Overlooking the Balearic Sea near Cala Llentia and Cala Codolar on the southwest coast, Time and Space Ibiza is an unusual stone monument created in 2014 by Australian artist Andrew Rogers.

Commissioned by Canadian billionaire Guy Laliberté, founder of Cirque du Soleil, the sculpture consists of 13 enormous basalt columns arranged in an elliptical formation approximately 24 metres in diameter. The stone was quarried in Turkey and transported to Ibiza, with the entire installation weighing around 420 tonnes.

The arrangement was inspired by the Fibonacci sequence and represents the movement of the planets around the sun. The tallest column is topped with 23-carat gold.

However, the project was controversial from the outset. The columns were erected on protected coastal land without the necessary planning permission. Environmental groups objected to the construction, and Sant Josep Town Council opened an investigation into planning infringements.
Despite the controversy, the monument remains standing and has become a popular attraction, earning the nickname Ibiza’s Stonehenge.

Nearby stand the equally unusual Doors of Can Soleil, two decorative doorways standing alone in the landscape, with views towards the mysterious island of Es Vedrà.
