FINCA LISTONERO

Reborn after the terrible raging wildfire that swept across the Sierra Cabrera and into the valley at Cortijo Grande and destroyed the previous fabulous incarnation in 2009.

Finca Listonero is back and just as fabulous, now run by Ian and Sandra.

They are very welcoming hosts and serve up excellent food.

It is a boutique guest house and restaurant, hidden away amongst the mountains surrounding the beautiful valley of Cortijo Grande, near Mojácar in stunning rural Andalucía.

The dining room has large windows overlooking the valley.

From where you can view fabulous sunsets each evening.

The menu is pretty short, but you can be assured of fresh, quality local produce cooked by Sandra's brother, Malcolm.

We had this to eat on our evening there.

Pan casero con alioli y salsa de tomate (homemade bread with aioli and tomato dip)

Pulpo con patatas hervidas y pimentón (octopus with boiled potatoes and pimenton)

Asparagus (asparagus)

Conejo de ajo (garlic rabbit)

Besugo con alcaparras (sea bream with capers)

Filete de cerdo ibérico en salsa de romero (Ibérico pork fillet in rosemary sauce)

All mains were served with baked potatoes.

Desserts were

Tallo de jengibre y helado de regaliz (stem ginger and liquorice ice cream)

Brownie de chocolate con frutas de verano (chocolate brownie with summer fruits)

For drinks, we had two beers and two gin and Tonics at the bar.

And two bottles of Barón de Ley Gran Reserva Viña Imas 2013.

The bill for four people came to €225.

Booking is essential to ensure you get a table. If you have any special dietary requirements or are a vegan, please let them know when you book, and they will be only too happy to make sure you have an enjoyable and delicious evening.

The property has nine rooms, each with a different decor. If you don't want to drive home after your meal with views into the Cabrera and out across the desert, it is a true hidden gem of Andalucía.
