O SOLAR DOS LEITOES

This hidden restaurant is located on the outskirts of Monsanto and serves delicious traditional Portuguese cuisine, including some of the best grilled fish in Lisbon.

This family business has been operating for three generations and is located in a remote, run-down residential area in Buraca. It’s not easy to find and is definitely off the tourist track. Even taxis with GPS often struggle to locate it!

Don't let this discourage you. You'll be dropped off at the bottom of a narrow street, where you will walk up, and the restaurant is located at the top on the right.;

At the entrance, there is a lovely terrace, along with two excellent rooms inside. Since our last visit, a roof has been added to the grill room.

The establishment is now managed by Chef Pedro, who has taken over the grill from his father, who is still present. The fish is always fresh and cooked using his unique method.

While perusing your menu, you will find cheese, jamón, and olives on your table to enjoy.

To start try

Lampreia (lamprey, in season in January)

Sardinhas (sardines, in season in summer)

Ovas de pescada (hake roe)

Lulas (baby squid)

Salads with unique seasonings.

To enjoy the best fresh fish in Lisbon, you must try the wild catch, especially for the quality of the ingredients and the exceptional grilling skills of Chef Pedro Leitão.

Dourada (gilthead bream €47 per kilo)

Linguado (sole €50 per kilo)

Rodovalho (turbot €50 per kilo)

Beef steak and black pig pork loin are also on the menu. The restaurant's name, which translates to “The Manor of Piglets,” is derived from the family name and does not indicate the offerings available. It is worth noting that the house speciality is suckling pig or suckling kid (lamb), both of which need to be ordered in advance.

Most people come for the fish.

For dessert

House rice pudding

Mouse Chocolate (chocolate mousse) (not a rodent!)

Leite cream (cream caramel)

Papaia (papaya)

An excellent list of Portuguese wines is available on a high-tech iPad, which is unusual.

Service was friendly and unobtrusive.

Our bill came to €290 for five people, including three bottles of wine and four beers.
