CASINO DE MUNDAKA

Mundaka is a town and municipality in the Basque Country, located in the province of Biscay.

Mundaka is a working port on the coast and is internationally renowned for its surfing scene.

The port is at the town's centre; from there, the old part of the town grew.

All the houses are medieval, with fishermen's cottages, always looking out to sea.

The port has many small boats.

Mundaka is well-renowned worldwide for its surf quality. Huge swells roll in from the Bay of Biscay and slam into the rocky coastline of the Basque Countryside. The estuary at Mundaka has created a perfect sandbar, which forms hollow waves that can be watched from the town's harbour wall.

Mundaka was formerly one of the sites for the World Championship Tour of Surfing. Some great surfers have left their mark on Mundaka, such as Taj Burrow, Bobby Martinez, Kelly Slater, Mark Occhilupo and Joel Parkinson.

This restaurant is in a lovely 100-year-old building with fantastic views of the sea and estuary.

Try to get a sea view table!

The fish and seafood are excellent.

Try,

Gambas a la plancha (freshly grilled prawns)

Ensalada de atún, anchoa, cebolla y lechuga (tuna, anchovy, onion and lettuce salad)

The fish of the day is always excellent.

This was the splendid Alfonsino, known locally as Rey or king in Spain.

Desserts include,

Pastel de queso casero flan (homemade flan cheesecake)

Valenciano (apricot brandy, orange juice and orange ice cream)

After eating, you can stroll around the town and harbour, where you will find a few bars, etc.

Or have a walk along the stunning coastline.
