PORTUGAL - OPORTO - TABERNA REAL DO FADO
TABERNA REAL DO FADO
As we were in Portugal and Porto it seemed a good idea to take in a Fado evening. This Fado Taberna is a very good way to end the day with a group of friends or in a romantic environment with a loved one, for a good introduction to Fado music.
I loved the performance of the guitarists and the voices of the performers were outstanding even though I did not know what they were singing about.
The dinner was very good for the price, which was €40 per person for all the food and house wine, which include the entertainment.
There were three different starters, so it was one of each, per two people. We started with,
Pimientos de Padrón
bolinhos de bacalhau (cod fritters)
A local puff pastry in sweet and sour sauce (which was almost Oriental in taste)
The Main Course was a choice of bacalhau (salt cod)
or polvo (octopus)
I would recommend octopus for the main dish to experience Portugal’s kitchen.
Cheesecake
We had two bottles of decent house wine between four people which was included in the price.
The Fado performance was in four parts, with a lady and a man taking turns. Both had great voices and then joined together for the finale.
The location is great and is within walking distance of many places to enjoy in the streets of Porto at night, after the performance has finished.
The service was excellent, with great help and explanations from the jolly head man.
Please make sure to book in advance. Even on a rainy evening in March, the place was fully booked.
