DIS TINTO TABERNA MADRID WINE & TAPAS

We visited DisTinto Taberna Madrid Wine & Bar with Mark Walsh of Walsh Jewery. The restaurant bar opened in 2018 in Madrid’s Barrio de las Letras, just a few steps from Plaza de Jesús. Unlike some of its historic neighbours, this relatively modern establishment retains much of the atmosphere of a traditional Spanish tavern.

Founded by four cousins with extensive hospitality and wine experience, DisTinto quickly built a reputation for its impressive selection of Spanish wines, sherries, and Champagnes, along with excellent tapas and traditional dishes with a contemporary twist.

After an extended closure, the bar reopened in 2026, continuing its original philosophy of encouraging customers to discover interesting, sometimes unusual wines.

We started with a doble estrella (a medium-sized glass of draught beer, around 300–350 ml).

Then we had a truly stunning ensalada rusa con ventresca de atún (Russian salad with tuna belly).

Followed by a very tender pulpo tierno con queso flameado.

Tender octopus with blow-torched, grilled cheese, something I hadn’t seen before. It was excellent.

I enjoyed this dish alongside an excellent Albariño from Bodegas La Val. It was a fresh, mineral-driven white wine with bright citrus flavours and ripe white stone fruit. Classic Rías Baixas.
