We stayed for three nights in the Basque Country town of Elorrio at Hotela M&UGA. The town stands out for its unique medieval and modern heritage. In 1964, it was declared a Medieval Heritage Site. It is set in a green valley, with the river Zumelegi running down its centre.
Strolling through the streets lined with palaces and ancestral houses, crafted from stone and intricately carved masonry dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, is truly delightful.
We chose to stay in the M&UGA Hotela.
The hotel is a minute’s walk from the Plazako Bizikleta-aparkalekuak (Gernikako Arbola Square).
The elegant basilica of La Purísima Concepción (Sortzez Garbiaren Eliza) and the Town Hall are at the heart of the town.
The ever-friendly and helpful duo of Niko Moreno and Maider Ugarriza runs the hotel. The hotel’s name is derived from the first letter of Niko’s surname, M, and the first three letters of Maider’s surname, UGA, hence M&UGA!
The hotel features a shared lounge.
The two-star hotel has a terrace, breakfast area, and a garden with eleven air-conditioned twin rooms,
or double rooms with free Wi-Fi
They all have a private bathroom.

Niko and Maider will organise anything you need.
We required a seven-seat taxi, which they organised for us to visit different destinations and restaurants during our stay.
There are many excellent traditional restaurants and bars throughout the Town to explore.

One evening, we ventured further downtown and stopped at Restaurant Batzoki Amilibia. This was a friendly little local bar.

We enjoyed a fantastic three days here, thanks to our wonderful hosts who went above and beyond to assist us. Hotela M&UGA comes highly recommended.
