RESTAURANTE LA ESCOLLERA

ree

La Escollera has been in Puerto de Estepona since 1940. The long-standing harbour-side restaurant, with a large terrace, is one of the best places to enjoy stunning, fresh seafood in Estepona.

ree

The restaurant is old school and not fancy. There is an extensive menu featuring freshly caught, local fish, right from the fish market. Fresh fish arrives from the sea in the morning, and you can enjoy it at your table for lunch or dinner within hours.

ree

You will see many locals and fishermen eating here, which is always a good sign and also means it is reasonably priced. They do not reserve tables because they are always full, so you may have to wait at busy times, especially on Sunday lunchtime.

ree

Over a few visits, we have eaten wonderful,

Tartar de atún rojo (red tuna tartar)

ree

Ensalada de pulpo (octopus salad)

ree

Anchoas (Cantrabian anchovies)

ree

Almejas en salsa de ajo (clams in garlic sauce)

Coquinas (flat shell clams)

ree

Peregrinas o vieiras (scallops)

ree

Zamburiñas (Galician scallops)

ree

Calamares fritos (deep fried squid)

ree

Dorada (gilt head sea bream)

ree

Rodaballo (turbot)

ree

To drink, we have chosen local wines from Bodegas Jorge Ordóñez Botani from Sierras de Málaga D.O., a dry, aromatic white wine made from 100% old-vine Moscatel de Alejandría grapes grown on the steep slopes in the Axarquía region of Málaga, offering floral, citrus, and mineral notes with crisp acidity, a refreshing contrast to sweeter traditional Málaga wines you may have tried before.

ree

Bodegas Jorge Ordóñez Botani Garnacha 2024 from Sierras de Málaga D.O., an elegant profile of ripe red berries (strawberry, plum) and floral notes, offering a balanced, minerally palate with soft tannins and spicy hints.

ree

We had fast, efficient, and charming service in a lovely atmosphere, what more could you ask for?

ree

After the meal, we wandered around the port to catch the stunning sunset.

Restaurante La Escollera is a classic and a must-visit in Estepona, and I hope it never changes because it's fantastic! Don't miss it!
