PRIMITIVO RESTAURANTE

To get to this restaurant, head east, along the coastal road from Málaga for about 6 km, and you will arrive in Pedregalejo. It's a pleasant 30/40-minute walk or a short taxi ride from Málaga centre. The still, very traditional village of Pedregalejo has retained its local character and charm, avoiding the ruin caused by tourism. This old fishing village is now known for its excellent restaurants, which line the promenade next to the beach. In the warm summer months, sometimes during pleasant days in winter, most people eat outside on the terraces where you can see the local way of cooking sardines (espetos) on wooden sticks in the jabegas (traditional fishing boats).

The restaurant is back from the beach, but on the road running parallel, so it is less manic than the beach restaurants. After settling in, we had Croquetas.

Berenjenas en adobo (aubergine in an adobo marinade - a dark red chile sauce made from ground dried chiles, garlic, dried herbs and vinegar).

Arroz negro (pulpo, calamar, gambas y tinta de calamar)

Black rice (octopus, squid, prawns and squid ink).

The many meat dishes cooked on the parrilla included solomillo de vaca con foie.

Old cow beef tenderloin with foie gras.

The meat was of the highest quality and cooked beautifully. There was a choice of mashed potato, chips or vegetables cooked on the parrilla. For dessert, Tarta queso (cheese cake).

Tabletón chocolate (chocolate tart).

There was a wide range of wines, well-kept and served in huge glasses, which was appreciated. A copa Albariño was €3.50 and tinto verano limón €2.50.
The service was friendly and helpful. After the meal, we headed to the beach area, where you can hire sunbeds. The beaches here have been divided up into small U-shaped coves. This makes them among the safest along this coastline and the perfect place for families with young children.
