TAPEO & WINE PERMANENTLY CLOSED 2021

This was our first visit to Tapeo & Wine in Deansgate, Manchester, as a precursor to the football at Old Trafford.

The restaurant was opened in 2016 in the buzzing heart of Manchester by the Mata family (The owner's Son, Juan Mata, is currently a Manchester United football player).

There is a bright, modern bar and restaurant on the ground floor that looks out onto busy Deansgate. It also has another large restaurant bar downstairs, which has a private room for hire.

The food served is pretty traditional and uses quality produce.

We had a table of eight for a couple of hours at lunchtime and managed to get through the following.

Pan tostado con alioli Toasted ciabatta with alioli mayonnaise dip

Patatas bravas Fried potatoes with spicy brava and alioli sauce

Tortilla Española Classic Spanish potato omelette

Croquetas de jamón Ibérico Ibérico ham croquettes

Croquetas de temera y setas Beef and wild mushroom croquettes

Buñuelos de bacalao con alioli de piparras y crujiente de piel Cod fritters with a crispy skin and piparra pepper

Gambas al ajillo Garlic and chilli king prawns

Huevos fritos de pato con patatas, chorizo y pimientos de Padrón Fried duck eggs with potatoes, Padrón peppers and chorizo

Pulpo con garbanzos y chorizo Roasted octopus with chorizo and chickpea stew

Lubina en salsa ali pebre con patatas Fried sea bass in all i pebre sauce, served with fried potatoes

Arroz con leche Traditional creamy rice pudding

Textura de chocolate con crema de Baileys, café y naranja Multi-textured chocolate dessert with Baileys cream, milk foam and fresh orange

To drink, we had 2 x Bodega Legaris Verdejo 2016 (Rueda) @ £21 1 x Red Sangria Jug @ £15

Service was very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable.
