Almería was named Capital Española de la Gastronomía 2019 (Twitter @Almeria2019), and various gastronomic events would take place in Almería over the course of the year.
We had the pleasure of being invited to these by Fernando Huidobro, fernandohuidobrorein.com, Twitter @FHuidobroRein, Presidente de Academia Andaluza de Gastronomía y Turismo (twitter @andgastrotur)
After our day in Garrucha, we rose early the next morning and drove to Almería City to join up with the other guests at the AH! Avenida Hotel.
After checking in, we boarded the coach, ready to take us to the Fiesta Club de Golf Playa Serena in Roquetas de Mar, a town just to the west of Almería City. It's known for its beaches, like Serena and La Bajadilla.
The Aquarium Roquetas de Mar offers shark diving, a stingray touch tank, and a tropical room recreating the Amazon basin. The 17th-century Santa Ana Castle once protected the town from pirates. Today, it hosts art exhibits and summer concerts. The nearby Punta Entinas-Sabinar is a nature reserve with marshes, dunes and flamingos.
Golf Playa Serena was founded in 1979 and features excellent facilities and a fully renovated 18-hole golf course.

On arrival, we were led into the Clubhouse, characterised by its high ceilings, open spaces, and breathtaking views of the golf course and the Sierra Nevada.

In the main room, we were handed a copa de cava and then listened to speeches from Fernando Huidobro and the Mayor of Roquetas de Mar, Gabriel Amat Ayllón.

Once the speeches were over, we went to various tables set up by local restaurants in Almería to try their carefully prepared menus and drinks.

Pulpo (octopus)

The famous gambarojo de Garrucha

Prawns being steamed

Salmoneta (striped red mullet)

Caviar

Lovely roast peppers

Guisante lágrima (teardrop peas)

Queso (cheese selection)

Various drinks were available, including a sherry bar.

After a few hours of eating, drinking, mingling, chatting and listening to the local DJ playing chilled music,
After some time, he was joined by an excellent duo of a guitarist and a trumpet player.

We were then advised that the Cocktail Bar was open, so we tried the excellent margaritas.

Next was the turn of the desserts

This went on for several hours as the guests began to let their hair down, and we all joined in the fiesta spirit.
After about 7 hours of great food and entertainment, we went back to our coach for the ride back to the hotel.
All had a great time.
