CHIRINGUITO GITANA
Chiringuito Gitana was the first to be ready and open its doors among all the new chiringuitos in Formentera from 2024 to 2030. It kicked off the summer season and beach service at Es Arenals in Migjorn, attracting many residents and regular visitors eager to see the new Chiringuito Gitana.

With colourful decor throughout the new beach bar/chiringuito, no detail has been left to chance.

From the exterior decor and the selected tables and chairs to the uniforms of the entire Gitana team, the place stands out for its personal style compared to the old beach chiringuitos we knew here.

Chiringuito Gitana, like its predecessor in the area, Kiosco La Franja, will have the restrooms separate from the main body of the kiosk, creating two distinct blocks. I find this option very appropriate for those kiosks where the Coastal Demarcation requires it. It separates the service area from the restroom area, which also houses a generator for situations when the solar panels and batteries are insufficient to meet the kiosk’s energy demands.
I miss the larger shaded areas available in the early days of this new beach kiosk, although the sunsets are still as wonderful as ever.

A PREVIOUS REVIEW, WHEN IT WAS KIOSKO LA FRANJA

Jonathon Lipsin writes: This is my favourite swimming spot on the Island, situated on Platja de Migjorn, where I used to live behind the Piratabus. I enjoyed visiting La Franja, this little chiringuito, after my swim.

A chiringuito is basically a wooden shack/beach bar set on the beach that sells basic sandwiches, tapas, cold beer, and wine.

The people are friendly, and the service is quick. Unlike the more popular chiringuitos, like Bartolo’s and Piriatabus at the other end of Platja de Migjorn, I can usually grab a table when I want.

Here, the mother makes a cheese omelette, like she’s been doing for some 45 years, every morning.

Her daughter, Sandra, and her husband own the place, and my friend Bernadette has known her since she was a small girl, as well as her mother and her grandmother from many years ago.

After my swim, I can come out of the sea, walk a short distance with my feet in the tide and be at Kiosko La Franja in minutes.

I sip a cold beer and order a cheese omelette (which is very good), and the world is as simple

and as well as it should be, as I relax and stare out to the open sea.

Life is good here!
