MADRID - CHOCOLATERIA SAN GINÉS

CHOCOLATERIA SAN GINÉS

The San Ginés Chocolatería & Churreria has been in existence since 1894. It is the most famous and centrally located Chocolatería in Madrid. They are open all night, so when the late-night crowds exit the bars and dance clubs, they all head to San Ginés to put something tasty and sweet into their hungry stomachs. It is in an attractive location, with two floors of plush green velvet seating, marble tables, and many mirrors. There is also an umbrella-covered outdoor seating area.

There is no menu because it is obvious what people will eat. As it is so popular, expect to wait a bit for a table at any hour. The churros are made to order and are hot, crunchy, and not too sweet or oily like some you may have tried before.

A churro is a fried, predominantly choux dough pastry

The chocolate is of excellent quality. Dark, rich & perfectly sweetened.

It's worth the wait in the queue to get your chocolate fix. You could easily share one portion if you're on a tight budget. They also serve purros (large churros), but you will only get two of these with your chocolate.

Once served, it will cost €4 for delicious hot chocolate and €6 for the churros, with swift, friendly waiter service, in these calm and traditional surroundings.

Being open all night usually creates a pleasing ambience, and being so close to Plaza San Miguel means it is always busy day and night.

There are many photographs of visiting celebrities on show In the dining rooms.

This is a must-visit for people with a sweet tooth when in Madrid.
