GALICIA - VIGO - RESTAURANTE LA PIEDRA COCEDERO DE MARISCO

Vigo is the biggest city in Galicia and stands in a stunning location. There are 14 golden beaches on the three miles of coastline that border the city, eight of which have blue flag status. You can also visit the Las Islas Cies (The Cíes Islands), the beautiful archipelago off the coast which is easy to reach by ferry.

Do what the locals do and head for rúa de la pescadería, one of a labyrinth of lanes in the old town, where you will see granite tables piled high with fantastic local oysters and the other wonderful seafood from the area and eat them at one of the bars in the lane with a glass of albariño, rated by some as the best white wines of Spain and made locally in the Rias Baixas area of Galicia. A good place to start is:-

RESTAURANTE LA PIEDRA COCEDERO DE MARISCO

This bar / restaurant is in a excellent location on the famous rua das ostras (street of oysters, which is in the seafood market area of the old town). This is not a fancy place, but all the stunning seafood is fresh and cooked to perfection (If possible sit at one of the outside tables) and try a few of these............. Ostras (Local oysters)

Berberechos (cockles)

Percebes (Goose Barnacles)

Chiperones (baby squid)

Gambas a la plancha (Grilled red prawns)

Most of the people eating are locals which makes for a friendly atmosphere that gets very boisterous in the evening.

If you have not eaten too much here, walk around the corner to the rúa da laxe (which is basically, the street of ocotpus) and repeat the procedure with a plate of pulpo (octopus)
