RESTAURANT CAÑABOTA One Michelin Star

Recently awarded one Michelin Star in the 2022 Michelin Guide, it is only Sevilla's second. If you are looking for fish, this is the place to go to in Sevilla.

This is a restaurant specialising in fish and seafood, offering both the informal ambience of a tapas bar and the bright appeal of an open-view sushi bar. The superb display cabinet of fish and its charcoal grill are the star attractions.

We returned to the restaurant in October 2021, during COVID-19 restrictions, where all recommendations were followed.

Pan and aperitives.

Followed by

Anchoa Costera (anchovies).

Sardina marinada (marinated sardines).

Berberechos (clams).

Navajas jengibre (razor clams with ginger).

Gambas (prawns).

Mojama de atún rojo (air-dried red tuna).

Tallarines de choco con níscalos (cuttlefish noodles with chanterelle mushrooms in the cuttlefish ink).

We then chose a large fish to share, in this case,

Dorada (gilt-head bream).

Superby cooked on point.

To drink, we had Bodega El Paraguas, Agás do Tempo 2018 DO Ribeiro.

We ended with the excellent cheesecake.

Service was very informative as usual, with incredible recommendations from Eduardo.

The following is a visit from November 2019.

There is an open-plan kitchen where you can see the fish being prepared and cooked to your preferred method.

All the seafood comes from local waters near Huelva, which offer an exciting and wide variety.

Be aware that this place is really just a fish restaurant, so you won't get side dishes like potatoes and vegetables.

The Chef, Marcos Nieto, uses the best raw produce, prepared with the utmost attention to detail, for your taste and visual appearance. Great care and attention are taken with all the ingredients.

The atmosphere is modern, chic, and clean, with friendly chefs who speak English to help if your Spanish is poor.

We went for the Cañabota Menu.

Which comprised an appetiser + five courses + pre-dessert and dessert for 50€

Appetiser

Ensalada De Hígado De Bacalao Con Champiñones

Cod liver salad with mushrooms

Tartar de calamar y caviar de trucha

Squid tartar & trout caviar

Pescado local con salsa de oliva y ajo "

Local fish with olive & garlic sauce

Mero

Grouper

Calamares rellenos de cerdo ibérico Squid, stuffed with Ibérian pork

Chocolate pre-dessert

Citrus dessert

To drink, we had glasses of

Cerveza €1.80

Altis albariño €4.50

Noctiluca dessert wine from Málaga €6

The restaurant has around 30 covers, and on this midweek lunchtime, they were all taken.

Service was friendly and helpful
