A three day trip across the border into France took us to southeastern region with stays in Lyon and Vienne (located 35 kilometres south of Lyon, on the river Rhône)

The restaurant is 9km from Vienne. You need to cross Pont routier de Lattre de Tassigny to get out of town, heading towards the village of Givors. You will see the restaurant on the right hand side a few km before Givors.
This roadside establishment founded in 1822 was once home to the "Mères" Dumas' stoves.
In winter you can enjoy the chef's speciality, which is, lièvre à la royale (hare), prepared according to the recipe immortalised by Senator Couteaux more than a century ago!
We chose to have the very good lunchtime menu gourmand at €39.50.
Foie gras poché dans un bouillon de poule, cèleri confit et huile de truffes (foie gras poached in a chicken broth, celeriac confit and truffle oil).
Coquilles Saint-Jacques, charcuterie Ibérique et purée de pommes de terre au citron (Scallops, Iberian sausage and lemon mashed potato puree).
Doré doré à la poêle avec un risotto de maïs sucré et de pâtes (seared gilthead bream, sweet corn and pasta risotto).
Fromage blanc ou trio de fromages affinés (white cheese or ripened cheese trio).
Dessert au chocolat de la maison (the house chocolate dessert).
Dessert framboise de la maison (the house raspberry dessert).
Mignardise (petit fours)
The wine we had was a 50ml Crozes-Hermitage Petit Rouche at €18, it was splendid.
The bill for 3 including wine, coffee and water came to a very reasonable €153.
There is a shaded terrace overlooking a beautiful vegetable garden, which is a real asset in the summer months.
What a pleasant surprise this restaurant was virtually the middle of nowhere on the main road in Loire Sur Rhône. We had a wonderful lunch and the hostess was very welcoming and the service impeccable.
