ANDALUCÍA - MÁLAGA - PEDREGALEJO - CHIRINGUITO EL LIRIO
CHIRINGUITO EL LIRIO (Closed)
There are many great things about Málaga. The big blue skies, 300 days of sunshine a year, the beaches and the food.
StartFragment
Málaga has some of Andalucía's best Chiringuitos. These are beachfront bars and restaurants, that specialise in tapas, salads and above all else, lots of fish. You will find skewers of freshly caught and salted Mediterranean sardines, dorada (gilthead bream), lubina (sea bass), salmonete (red mullet) and other locally caught fish.
There is normally meat available, but it’s fish and seafood tapas, hot and cold, that these places are renowned for. The menu is basically a list of things caught in the sea that day. For the best Chiringuitos, head just east of the city towards a strip of beaches and to Málaga's oldest fishing neighbourhoods, Pedregalejo. The seafront is a long row of restaurants.
On the sand, in front of the Chiringuitos are boats full of stones and olive wood burning slowing. This is the traditional way of grilling fish.
Try Restaurante El Lirio, which was founded in the early twentieth century. It has good quality fish at reasonable prices served in a friendly family atmosphere right on the beachfront.
There is seating downstairs and upstairs with views over the blue Mediterranean.
Aside from all the usual fish dishes, like sardinas grilled in the boat in front of the restaurant
You can also choose from the daily catch on show inside the restaurant
El Lirio also offers some great gazpacho, fish soups and their flagship dish the arroz caldoso con boquerones (soupy rice with anchovies) is simply amazing.
Arroz caldoso con boquerones (soupy rice with anchovies)
This needs to be washed down with a local fresh Málaga wine like Botani
You will end your meal with aaniseed-flavoured liqueur on the house
With menu del dias for as little as 12€ it's a great place for a long lazy lunch.
