LONDON - SOHO - BARRAFINA

One Michelin Star

BARRAFINA

Barrafina has moved to a new address in Soho, from Frith street to

26-27 Dean Street, Soho, London.

We thought we would give the new venue a try on this midweek evening in March 2019.

As usual it was busy, so we had to wait 45 mins to be seated. Once we were, these are a few of the dishes that we tried.

Pimientos de Padron and Jamón croquetas.

Paletila Ibérica

Lenguado en salsa de almendra (sole in almond Sauce)

Solomillo Rubia Gallega (sirloin steak from Galicia)

The food is still very good and the atmosphere is still very buzzy.

This visit is a follow up to an earlier visit to the old address in Frith Street

This "Hart brothers" place was busy before being awarded its first Michelin star in the 2015 guide, so be prepared to wait, unless you join the queue before it opens!

Whilst you are standing in the queue, you can (at your expense) have a board of Jamón Señorio de Montanera and some Pimientos de Padrón with a glass of wine.

In fact, standing in the queue is part of the experience as you are chatting with the people around you whilst waiting, which could be one hour plus when busy.

Once seated, in front of the chefs who are buzzing around the cooking station, you can begin.

If you manage to grab one of the tables outside you can watch the endless parade of the colourful locals of Soho strolling past, seemingly just for your entertainment.

You will be served many traditional dishes which have been given a new twist, every thing is fresh daily and when it's gone it's gone.

Pan con tomate

Jamón croquetas

Tortilla (classic (as shown), prawn and piquillo pepper or Jamón and spinach are available)

Gambas al ajíllo

Chipirones

Carabinero prawns are nearly always on the menu (these are very expensive and can be up to £20 each!)

Red Snapper, skate wing and saffron alioli

Mackerel adabo

Solomillo de Ternera

Grilled chorizo

Chips with brava Sauce

Fennel, radish and cherry tomato salad

Courgette flower

Desserts

Chocolate tart

Crèma Catalana

Santiago Tart

Selection of Spanish cheeses

Turron

You will also see a daily specials board. These tend to sell out quickly.

There is an excellent sherry selection including the Harts Bros special Manzanilla.

The wine list is all Spanish with reds and whites from a reasonable £19 up to £82

Service is very brisk, but friendly.
