A Covid time return, to this great spot in July 2020.

We have been coming to this great little restaurant in the pine forest of Santa Agnés for many years now and always receive a great welcome and good Ibicencan food and wine at decent prices.

On this occasion, we had,

Ensalada payesa (local Salad)

Nido calamar (squid nest)

Rotja (scorpion fish)

Followed by fideuà,

similar to seafood paella but made with pasta noodles instead of rice.

On this occasion, washed down, by an excellent bottle of Mocen Verdejo 2019 D.O. Rueda, which I had not tried before.

We had the usu...

The coastline in and around Ribadesella is a mixture of large sandy beaches and small coves.

Playa de Vega is a very unspoiled spot just outside this sidra obsessed picturesque town.

A café bar and snack kiosk, provide drinks and ice cream.

For a special lunch there, try this superb fish restaurant.

All the staples are there,

Almejas (clams)

Gambas (prawns)

Sardinas (sardines)

Cetollu (spider crab)

Pulpo a feria (octopus in the style of the fair)

Calamares a la plancha (grilled squid)

Restaurante Es Boldado

This review contains three different trips to Es Boldado

When driving from Sant Josep to Cala d’Hort, before you get there, take the last right turn to Cala Truja, after abour 3 km you will see the sign for Es Boldado on your left.

Turn into this road and drive down the dusty camino (dirt track) for around 1.5km and you will come upon the best view in Ibiza. If you are looking for a restaurant with a view, this is the one for you.

Restaurante Es Boldado is situated on a precipitous cliff, facing the mystical Islets of Es Vedrá (supposedly the third most magnetic place on earth!) and...

AZURMENDI     3 Michelin Stars

Chef Eneko Atxa Azurmendi was the youngest Spanish chef to obtain 3 Michelin stars in 2012.

You will find out why when you arrive at this sub tropical glass house overlooking the stunning Basque countryside 25 minutes outside of Bilbao.

Azurmendi is an ecosystem by itself, based on sustainability. It is environmentally friendly, uses renewable energies and recycles any waste generated, harvests the rainfall and heats and cools the facilities using geothermal energy.

They have also just started producing their own wines, from vines, rolling down the hill, in front of the rest...

To find Chiringuito Utopia take the sign posted footpath from Port Sant Miquel beach that starts just past the Port Balansat restaurant on the left hand side of the beach looking out to sea .

After walking for about 250 meters across the cliffs you will see the bay below.

And the Chiringuito at the back of it.

This is one of the most peaceful beaches on the island and easy to miss unless you know where the path begins. It is only about 30m long and 25m wide but the water is crystal clear and is ideal for snorkeling and safe for children.

This small, rustic chiringuito (beach shack) serves a small, but...

Restaurante El Mirador

With almost the entire island stretched out before you the stunning panoramic views across to Ibiza and Es Vedrá in the distance, there is no greater view on Formentera than from the terrace here.

Found high on a hilltop, this rustic restaurant and cafeteria is open in the morning for the early birds

to take a coffee and ensaïmada (a croissant like pastry, but made with lard (pig fat) not butter).

From 1pm until 4pm for lunch and 7pm until 11pm for dinner when you can try their traditional food like the large Formentera salad, mussels, calamari, chipirones, wonderful Mallo...

Drive past the Hotel Indalo on the road from Mojácar to Carboneras, bare right inland and take a left at the third roundabout onto Playa Macenas where you will see the Castillo de Macenas, just before the Macenas golf goes inland.

Drive past Chiringuito Macenas (you could stop here for a drink and/or tapas) and onto a dirt road which is not in great condition and initially runs along the edge of the sea on a cliff and then winds through canyons inland.

You will see stunning scenery on the drive and with due caution it is perfectly passable by car.

It is quite a rough and bumpy track but eventuall...

The drive to this restaurant will take you through Almeria’s desert interior, which is the only official desert in Europe.

Upon entering the pretty village of Vélez Blanco you could first head to the stunning Renaissance castle, which towers over the village. Built in the early 16th century, it is worth the visit, both for the castle itself and for the fantastic views overlooking the village and beyond.

The castle closes at 2pm, which is perfect, as this is when lunch begins here.

Head for this very good traditional restaurant in the village.

This is down below the castle, off the main road into the villa...

If you are looking for a great, chilled place to stay outside the hustle and bustle of Sant Antoni then head for Hostal La Torre. Set high up on a cliff called the Cap Neget looking out towards the luscious blue Mediterranean about 4 km outside Sant Antoni de Portmany (San Antonio).

Luscious gardens

The terrace provides a stunning panoramic view of the beautiful surrounding area.

It has a nice courtyard garden area to the rear and a lovely restaurant, with a wonderful terrace which has stunning panoramic views out to sea and the illa sa Conillera where the sun sets directly in front of you to the sound o...

This is one spot that you don’t read about everywhere, which makes it all the more special. Head for the Pacha owned Restaurant Sa Punta in Cala Talamanca, and when you reach it, keep going past over the rocks.

Soon you will see the tangle of umbrella canopies, wooden tables and plastic chairs.

A simple, typically Spanish chiringuito, perched on the rocks over looking the bay towards ibiza Town (Eivissa) and the Dalt Vila which has been run by the same family since 1979.

This places serves up delightfully simple fish dishes like:

Dorada (gilthead bream)

Lubina (sea bass)Sardines (sardines)
